Cumulative Updates - March 10th 2020

So for those attributing failure to install as an issue caused by third party anti virus, I uninstalled my Norton 360 restarted and laptop running solely on Microsoft products. Tried installing using windows update and failed for the umpteenth time. I then tried install with wireless switched off as recommended my a post on the tech site and install manual downloaded update file. failed yet again so no further forward other than eliminating the cause to Norton. As I said previously this is a Microsoft issue.

When I updated my desktop which hadn't been done since January the instal was fine even with Norton 360. What I have noticed checking the records is that KB4551762 installed when my desktop version was 1903, then after updating to 1909 the March Cumulative update went in as KB4541335. My laptop history is different as KB4551762 was not installed at 1903 version but trying at 1909 and failing as is KB4541335.

I tried rolling my update back to 1903 to try and start the whole process from my desktop status but would not let me roll back to version 1903.

The only options left is to leave updates switched off and hopefully it will sort itself out or do a fresh install of Windows 10. I will stick with the former as there is no guarantee that Windows 10 might actually reinstall successfully. Next laptop will be an applemac I think.

I am having issues with internet connectivity after the update. My wifi would stop working after some time and then I need to troubleshoot it. There it says "Default gateway is not working fixed". This happens again n again and it is very annoying. The internet is working fine on other devices and the wifi modem is also good. It is just my laptop that is having this issue that too only when connected to the wifi network. If I connect it to my mobile's hotspot it works fine. Please help.

Well, again, some manufacturers seem to be more closely involved with update problems than others. I have not seen a Microsoft Store popup ever. What does it say?

As for the Update. Try installing it directly from the Microsoft Catalog instead of through the automatic updates...that can often get one past the issue. https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=KB4551762

But if you look at a history of updates....whether it be the Cumulative Updates with Windows 10 or the Service Packs we used to get with Windows XP and on up until 10 came out...certain manufacturers (many pf them located in China---Lenovo, Acer, etc) are famous for having issues.  This MAY have something to do with a lot of the proprietary spyware that was factory installed on several models or may not. The problems were (and continue to be) real.

Those are a couple of examples to better show where the problems lie in MOST cases.

You can check your own manufacturer's support website for help with updates too, you know.

The people who actually built your device may be better qualified to help you than someone who may be completely unfamiliar with the eccentricities of your make and model.

Most these people do not understand that this site is not monitored by Microsoft.  It is for Consumers and a lot of do it your self.

I paused my Updates after reading for a couple weeks, then realized that possibly I would not have a problem because I use Windows Defender, Microsoft Malware and Firewall, so I took it off pause, checked for Updates.  Got the Cumulative Framework one first, installed it, then restarted, then Checked for Updates again and got the 1909.  I already had the 1903 installed last year.  I had not one single issue downloading and installing that Feature 1909 Update, and it only took maybe 10 minutes.  My Lap Top will be 10 years old in December and since I went with all Microsoft, I have had no issues, no virus, no problems.  

I will stick with Microsoft.

As I already mentioned I have never had an issue with their updates but, then, I don't use third party antivirus programs that interfere with them. I use Windows Security which doesn't. The reason should be obvious....Norton, McAfee and the others are not designed for Windows. They are designed for Linux (which is, itself, a Unix-like Operating System.

The most popular version of this being (last time I looked) Ubuntu a FOSS (Free and Open Source Software System) or O/S that will operate your computer just as well as Windows 10 from Microsoft or macOS Catalina from Apple or the Android OS from Google (mostly used on phones and tablets) or any of 'em.

 The high point being you could download and install Ubuntu today and never have to give Microsoft or Apple or Google another nickle.

ANYWAY Windows Security is designed for Windows 10 and they do not interfere with each other,

When one does it tends to be the antivirus which is at fault and they need to issue a patch (they eventually do and have in this 1909 debacle).

No need to get angry at Microsoft. If you want more freedom in using Third Party antivirus or what have you I suggest using Linux or one of its variants.
