I can no longer disable Touchpad (Synaptics SMBus Touchpad) on HP laptop with windows 10. Typical Disabling Driver options through Device control panel are not available. Disable driver options are grayed out. Are there other ways to disable the touch pad? Key strokes shortcuts, etc.?
Latest updates installed. Tried to uninstall touchpad but it just reinstalles automatically upon restart.

The update you did via the driver update utility may have messed up the driver.
Is Synaptics still listed under device manager?
If so then roll back the driver update or choose to manually update the driver>Select show compatible drivers & choose synaptics.
I didn’t ask you to download any driver update utility as these are mostly unneeded applications.
Sorry, it should’ve read ‘the download isn’t an app’.
You should install the precision touchpad driver as mentioned in my link which will then give you the complete options to disable/enable the touchpad when a mouse is connected, offer various scrolling options.
If you have followed my instructions & changed to the precision touchpad driver within device manager then there should no need for another app.
Double check the instructions on the site I posted.

I appreciate your helping me with this. Here is some background and what I did to follow your instructions you sent me.
My HP laptop is just over 2 years old and I initially disabled the touch pad function. About 4 months ago it became active again and eventually I was able to disable it again in settings. About 2 months later, November-ish, it became active again and sensitivity has been erratic and annoying. Sensitivity settings don't work either.
As suggested, I downloaded the WinZip Driver Update app, wzdu53, which identified 12 drives needing updating. Synaptics Touch Pad was one of them. I downloaded all 12 and re-started the laptop. Unfortunately nothing changed.

Please follow the instructions I posted to add the extra options to the touchpad tab within settings.
