How to open heic file

I downloaded photos from i Phone in miccroSD CARD but unable to open. It says download HEIC codecs.  The payment option is in US $ whereas I have Debit/Credit card of Indian Rupee. Please guide

To view HEIC/HEIF file on Windows 10 PC, the following 4 requirements are necessary.

  1. Update Windows 10 to 1809 or later
  2. In Microsoft Store, get the 'Microsoft Photos' (Released by Microsoft and Free) , and set it as Windows Default Photo Viewer
  3. In Microsoft Store, get the 'HEIF Image Extensions' (Released by Microsoft and Free)
  4. In Microsoft Store, get the 'HEVC Video Extensions from Device Manufacturer' (Released by Microsoft and Free)

Please note, there are 2 versions of 'HEVC Video Extensions', one you have to pay for $1, another is free, get the free one from the following URL:

    Amazing!!!! Getting HEVC Video Extension 1.0.40203 worked for me and now I can open heic photo files!

    Have you ever used a Mac computer? Makes Linux easy to use. Why spend a couple thousand dollars on a computer just to view a photo format that the iPhone users can easily change the default format back to .jpg?

    In reality Apple is the one who really plays the game by only playing friendly within their realm. Apple is only concerned with their product and their CULTure. They do not play friendly with Windows or even Android. So Microsoft who has always worked to play friendly with Apple (they offer office for Mac and even though Apple has tried to make it tougher for that to work) Microsoft has continued to offer it. Maybe Microsoft is just trying to give us windows users a taste of Apple by the pointing out Apple's unfriendly nature to the rest of the world.

    But I do feel it is wrong that the only way to view those photos is by paying for an app or that supposed Free codec from Microsoft in app store now costs .99 cents. The HEIVC format can be viewed in VLC player which is free. Just wish VLC would do photos.
