How to open heic file

I downloaded photos from i Phone in miccroSD CARD but unable to open. It says download HEIC codecs.  The payment option is in US $ whereas I have Debit/Credit card of Indian Rupee. Please guide

To view HEIC/HEIF file on Windows 10 PC, the following 4 requirements are necessary.

  1. Update Windows 10 to 1809 or later
  2. In Microsoft Store, get the 'Microsoft Photos' (Released by Microsoft and Free) , and set it as Windows Default Photo Viewer
  3. In Microsoft Store, get the 'HEIF Image Extensions' (Released by Microsoft and Free)
  4. In Microsoft Store, get the 'HEVC Video Extensions from Device Manufacturer' (Released by Microsoft and Free)

Please note, there are 2 versions of 'HEVC Video Extensions', one you have to pay for $1, another is free, get the free one from the following URL:

    I ended up discovering the old "Windows Photo Viewer" will open the HEIC files. If you set the file association to Windows Photo Viewer rather than Photos it should work. Even previews or thumbnails should display.

    Best option is to just buy the HEVC file extension for $1.45 from the Microsoft Store, the other free extensions don't work - it will save you time looking around the internet for a solution that doesn't work and other free apps or online converters are time consuming and have the potential to be malicious.  Feel free to download the free Microsoft HEIF extension first to see if this works for you - just in my case it did not.
