What happened to explorer search? Unable to paste the copied

file name to search for as it was in previous versions. I have to

manually type the file name and press Enter. This is terrible! Why does Microsoft only make things worse with each new version ?!

What I've also just discovered is that search now only works in standard locations such as "Desktop", "Downloads", "Music", "OneDrive", "Pictures" and "Videos".

My system has multiple drives, which each in turn contain folders that are logically not in the standard user folders.  When I add such a "non-standard" folder to Indexing Options, such as "Programming", "Customers", "Utilities", "Movies" or "Series", then even when Indexing Options shows Indexing complete, I cannot execute a search in any of those non-standard folders.

For example, searching for filename:"*.jpg?" (or any other acceptable search terms, including logic operators OR, AND, NOT) inside "E:\OneDrive", "E:\Documents" or "E:\Pictures" will give me the results I am looking for. But if I go to "E:\Programming", "E:\Customers", "E:\Utilities" or "F:\Movies" (or any other non-standard folder), and execute the exact same search, then I get no results.

I've been using Microsoft Windows since 3.1 and have never had a com, plaint about it before. My daily workload relies on the indexing and search capabilities of modern versions Windows.

Why was it necessary to mess with search? "If it ain't broke, don't fix".

    Indexing Options:

    Search results inside "E:\OneDrive"

    Search results inside "F:\Movies"

Ah, another Microsoft "improvement".  In this case it actually makes the search worse.  Is there a way to disable this new unified search and get the old functionality back?  All I need is a way to search files in the current folder and its sub-folders.   That's it.

For me the search box just becomes inaccessible after some time.  Yes, restarting file explorer fixes it.

I'm experiencing the same problem, and like other, need to restart the "explorer.exe" process to regain functionality.

While I like the idea of the unified search, I'm not too sure the current implementation was ready for public use in a feature update release to Windows. All I really like about it is that up to the point where it glitches and requires an Explorer restart, is that when I'm typing a search query, it doesn't immediately search and requires me to press enter first to execute the query. Previous implementations of search started searching immediately, which could be a pain the .....
