Hi, 

My anti virus software threw up the following:

Suspicious connection blocked

MicrosoftEdge.exe attempted to establish a connection relying on an expired certificate to markets.books.microsoft.com. We blocked the connection to keep your data safe since web pages must renew their certificates with a certification authority to stay current, and outdated security certificates represent a risk.

When it's fixed my Bitdefender will quit blocking it. Apparently it's a useless Microsoft file that is not needed or my computer would malfunction with it blocked. If your getting pop-ups, maybe get an anti-virus software like Bitdefender that works in the background without all of the annoying pop-ups.

    As of yesterday my bitdefender has stopped working altogether. I'll uninstall and reinstall, maybe that will help. I have a tracker that's causing all sorts of mayhem. Seems to be the same person as a few months ago, when I had to buy a new computer. Checking it out it looks like someone bought a license to access my network. I can see that every few days my network is disabled and another one is enabled. A few days later it switches again. I followed winding paths and found a Chinese/Tiwanese company, Quora.com who sell these short term licenses. If that's the issue I don't think anyone can do anything about it.

    And it all starts with Edge establishing connection through markets.books.microsoft.com.

    I followed the advice on this forum to update Microsoft Edge. Very pleased to say that Bitdefender has now settled down with no reports about MicrosoftEdge.exe expired certificate.

    or you can open Edge... goto "...", "Settings" and unchock inline definitions for "Books". 

    I still got a Bitdefender message about MicrosoftEdge.exe expired certificate after taking the action to unchock books. So now I've switched off all "Show online definitions for...." and will see if that helps.

    I finally edited my Hosts file to block access to the web address!

    Obviously Microsoft is not responding to the error messages we are receiving.

    Add these lines to your hosts file.

    You'll need permission to change this file I usually make a backup copy to save the original file with .org extension.

    The file is typically located in the C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc folder

    edit Host add: 

    127.0.0.1 markets.books.microsoft.com

    # Block access to Microsoft website that is corrupt.

    # localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.

    # 127.0.0.1       localhost

    You can always go back to the .org hosts file if its ever fixed!!

    This method is a quick way to block any malicious site addresses and directs connections to your pc and is a safe simple solution!
