Windows 10 extremely slow after updating to 1909

I have been using a PC with 800 M Hz AMD Phennom II processor and 8 GB RAM running 64-bit Windows 10 for several years. It has been running great until recently it became extremely slow after Windows update since November. I noticed that the CPU and Memory usage changed from about 50% to close to 100%. The performance resumed after I restored the system to the earlier version. Today was the 3rd time I did this and I checked the current stable version is 1903, so I guess the problem was caused by the new update 1909. I am afraid it will become slow again after the automatic update.

Please advise if there is a way to allow me continue to use this computer.

Hello,

Please try these suggestions:

Run System File Checker scan:

Search for 'command prompt' using Cortana or Windows Search.
From results, right click on Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
Type sfc /scannow command and press Enter key.
Let the command complete and then reboot the machine.

If that doesn't works, try these steps:

Search for 'windows powershell' using Cortana or Windows Search.
From results, choose Windows PowerShell and select Run as administrator.
Then type/paste following and press Enter key:

Repair-WindowsImage -Online -RestoreHealth

Let the command complete, restart your system then.

If problem continues, perform clean boot and remove third-party programs slowing down your system:

Also, try updating to Version 2004 or latest version and see if it helps.

My plan will be to do a bios update. Haven't done one in a while. And I will reseat my liquid cooler with some fresh thermal paste...just in case. I already do a system clean about every week.

My final resolution will be to do a re-install of win10.

If this was a deliberate strategy of MS that is SO unethical. It was confirmed apple engineered failure on their iPhone.

Restarting the PC takes 35 minutes. I have tried everything and the only joy is reinstalling 1903 which then again updates

Do all my development on Ubuntu now, but still use Windows for Netflix and playing Solitaire.

Is there a way to turn off updates for longer than the 35 days?

I ended up re-installing, because like you I have a completely capable Dual-Xeon 2637v2 computer with 64gigs of ddr3 ECC Registered ram and and 5700xt, with all drivers updated an Intel based 4-port gigabyte Ethernet card. It's obviously an microsoft windows 10 issue, I will not update to 1909(I currently have 1903) because of the issues that I have reported as well, the mouse freezing on the desktop and task-switching taking forever(my computer completely freezes for like 2mins), I have had to do a hard-reset several times for these issues. I currently shut off updates and turned off all of the secret places that MS likes to hide updating options, that seems to have cured my issues with Windows, for the time being. Thanks for the input guys, good luck with windows 10.
