I have been getting this message since the 3rd.  I have tried the sync troubleshooting steps but they have not worked.

I was finally able to fix this by going into the Shared experience settings in Windows 10

Click the start button and type Shared experiences and then open the setting. Toggle the On switch and see if that works. Even if the on switch is already on, toggle it off and then back on again and see if that fixes it. One thing to note is that you should probably only have My devices only in the dropdown menu.

I terminated the app but it still didn't work. I went back to the same place and scrolled down a bit and you'll see a repair app option. I clicked on it and my problem is resolved.

Uninstalling, reinstalling and relinking Your Phone Companion app fixed it for me.

So I tried all of these suggestions and nothing worked. I finally just Uninstalled the "Your Phone" app from my phone and re installed the app from the app store, logged in to my Microsoft account and set it up again from scratch. It is working again perfectly.
