I have been getting this message since the 3rd.  I have tried the sync troubleshooting steps but they have not worked.

I was finally able to fix this by going into the Shared experience settings in Windows 10

Click the start button and type Shared experiences and then open the setting. Toggle the On switch and see if that works. Even if the on switch is already on, toggle it off and then back on again and see if that fixes it. One thing to note is that you should probably only have My devices only in the dropdown menu.

Quite frankly this is one the most unreliable apps.  The only way I have found to overcome the problem is to restart the PC.  I wish I could find an alternative.

My issue was making sure that the Your Phone app was allowed to run in the background on my PC.

Settings > Privacy > Background Apps > Make sure Your phone app is on

THIS! Thank you! This one solved all my issues.

In the end paid ms support resolved the issue for me.

The solution was to reinstall windows!

    Cheers.

I reinstalled Windows 10 Pro. No change/difference. Error 52 still occurs when trying to connect to phone screen..

The website mentioned had good ideas:  https://www.guidingtech.com/fix-windows-10-your-phone-app-not-working-issue/

The app on my PC started working as soon as I enabled YourPhone to run in the background.  Open Settings, search for "Background apps", scroll down (or search) to YourPhone and make sure it's set to "On".
