File Explorer search not working in Windows 10 1909

Nickdig, seems like you are onto something.  I had a dark theme set on Windows and switched it to a light theme.  Now it seems to work a little more reliably, though it does have issues.

1. I notice that when you click in it does not always place the cursor in the text box, but if you type it works.
2. I also notice that the text moves down and right by one pixel when clicking in.  This is a typical problem with styling text boxes in different states.
3. Also, and more specifically, I was using "Custom Mode" in themes.  My windows explorer was light, my taskbar is dark.

I took a look at the current insider's preview on my laptop which supposedly has this bug fixed. It still exhibits some quirky behaviors as I described, but does work more reliably than in the production build with dark mode.  I have reported this as a bug to them.

Changing to light mode could be a viable workaround, though I wish Microsoft could patch this before the next big update in May.

"My father had this issue, could not click on the search box, and it resolved when I changed the display options for the desktop and colors for windows/file explorer, and has not recurred. Changed default windows mode to dark, default app mode to light, and set a custom accent color. Don't understand how they could be related, but the search started working again and it stayed fixed after a reboot."

It's still working after four days, and the computer is his primary machine, used all day every day with no reboots unless dictated by updates.

Upon reflection and reviewing this thread, I'm pretty sure this worked because the problem my father had, and hopefully most people in this thread have, isn't with the search itself, it's a bug with actually selecting the box in the file explorer window. That's why some of the workarounds make it misaligned and otherwise glitchy.

I already did, last week, the only person that tried it said it worked, let me find it and quote it. I think the reason it works is because this isn't actually a problem with the search app, not directly, it's a problem selecting the search box in the explorer window.

If no one knows how to explain why this problema occurs (only Microsoft Knows it), any solution is unreliable.

Have you tried mine? It's not a work around, and it appears to be permanent.
