File Explorer search not working in Windows 10 1909

Ever since I updated to Windows 10 1909 the Search Box in the File Explorer is completely unuseable. It shows a text cursor but I cannot click inside the box or type any text into it. Essentially it's a text box with no "wiring". 

Any ideas how to resolve this issue? I'm having to resort to using a third-party search app just to find files in my projects.

    No problem!  Let's hope Microsoft fixes the issue and actually makes searching even faster!

    Thank you, Ozberg. Yes indeed, Listary includes my beloved search by kind option. Problem solved. 

    It's just unfortunate that we have to resort to a third-party application to recover functionality that Microsoft loses in the quality control and usability testing process.

    Lol yes it does, I think the reason nobody is able to fix it is that it's not an actual problem with the search functions, is a glitch in the visual interfaces, which is why making big changes to them fixed it for me. I don't actually know that the specific settings I used fixed it, it's entirely possible any major change to those visual elements will work.

    This solution does not bring back the ribbon option for search by kind. Does the upcoming MS fix include that problem as well? Does anyone know of a fix for that issue?

    To be clear, my search box works, but the ribbon options for search still are not available.
