File Explorer search not working in Windows 10 1909

Ever since I updated to Windows 10 1909 the Search Box in the File Explorer is completely unuseable. It shows a text cursor but I cannot click inside the box or type any text into it. Essentially it's a text box with no "wiring". 

Any ideas how to resolve this issue? I'm having to resort to using a third-party search app just to find files in my projects.

    Very sad that one of the largest companies in the world cannot offer minimal customer service on this item. And, don';t get me going on the xBox!

    I am really confused because this did not work for me at all. I went to File Explorer and opened to My Documents and typed the a and then "a" and all it did was move my cursor down my files to the next file in my list of folders that started with an "a/A" but it did not show anything in the search bar at all.  I have tried many of the other temporary fixes and I will sometimes be able to type into the search bar and obtain a reply but not very often and when I shut off my Dell laptop I loose the temporary fix and am not able to perform any type of search.   

    I believe the difference is how each of us have our Windows 10 setup and something is causing this and other thing to happen like me to loose data files also.

    It does the same for me too, I've already submitted it to the Feedback Hub

    there is a setting in file and folder options labeled "when typing in list view"

    select the option labeled "Automatically type into the search box" 

    or select "Select the typed item in the view"

    this option has been there since at least windows 7, maybe even vista. this option makes the changes in settings you are talking about.

    fix the narrowness by shortening the address bar length. hover you cursor over the space between the address bar end and the beginning of the search box

    Good afternoon. Any updates regarding this issue in build 1909?

    I had installed this version by the official ISO (clean install) but due to this problem that, for me, is very annoying, I had to reinstall build 1903.

    Does the problem persist or has Microsoft fixed it?

    The issue (for me at least) appears to be with the Microsoft Co-Editor Executable which is part of OneDrive, the file is called FileCoAuth.exe.  I installed the Windows 10 2004 preview to try to fix this issue and when I went to search again in Explorer it was still blocked, but as soon as I tried to click in the search field my firewall notified me that FileCoAuth.exe wanted to access the network and as soon as I allowed it the Explorer search started working. (I have my firewall setup to ask me anytime something wants to access the internet).

    So maybe there is a solution to this bug without having to install the 2004 preview.  First thing I would try is creating a firewall rule to give FileCoAuth.exe full internet access privelages and make sure a rule wasnt accidentally created to block it from the internet.
