fai.music.metaservices.microsoft.com cannot access

Microsoft SUCKS, and they are forcing COSTUMERS to use their "new and nice" metadata service musicmatch-ssl.xboxlive.com instead of the better and reliable fai.music.metaservices.microsoft.com that has been working fine for many years.

I found this thread with a fixed about a year ago when the new musicmatch was switched for the fai.music services.microsoft.com I just did the opposite, so I resumed service to the musicmacth.ssl.xboxlive.com (which, still SUCKS), but at least I can get album info automatically, and for my new (old cds I did not own) albums I have bought. I have tried with a few cds and all of them have worked.

This was posts on a similar thread about a year ago:

"Found a solution that worked for me:

1. Start regedit.exe
2. Navigate to "Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\TunerConfig"
3. Look for setting PREFERREDMETADATAPROVIDER -- it should have a value "pmpMusicMatch"
4. Edit the setting PREFERREDMETADATAPROVIDER, and clear the value so you have a blank value
5. Save / exit regedit.exe
6. Restart Windows Media Player, you should be restored back to fai.music.metaservices.microsoft.com

What an unnecessary pain in the proverbial."

What I did was to restore [pmp.musicmatch] which, I originally deleted about a year ago... Now I get album info, but updating, or finding metadata for individual songs is really difficult, because the editing option is no longer available, hence the changes I did before.

Any music program should work well with your Home theater (granted you have a quality sound card for surround sound). I really enjoyed the classic Winamp because I could customize the skins and simply adjust the treble and base controls (and of course it is FREE). Once upon a time I enjoyed the Windows Media Player's visual transition effects (specifically on XP) but they were dulled on Windows 7. I am no fan of GrooveMusic, more of a big advertisement for Hollywood and a deliberate unoriginal copy of the Xbox dashboards. There are so many other 3rd party music programs but the most popular now require payment (boo!). I am testing MusicBee which seems to be a great (FREE) player and has sound adjustment functions but I have not tested them to determine quality on a surround system. It does find most CD album content so I am very happy with it for that function alone!

If I come across anything very good I will post it here ^_^

SOLVED: Please read Windows Media Player users - Thank you for your MusicBee advice! I have been using the program and although it has a slightly less intuitive interface it does for the most part recognize album track list information and even though many covers are found, if it does not auto-generate you can easily drag and drop a online album image to use as the cover! And once ripped by MusicBee Windows Media Player recognizes the saved files that are saved in the MusicBee folder within the Windows Music Folder! Thank you for your excellent advice!

You are correct, Windows 7 will last long beyond it's expiration, as I understand they are continuing their support for the Enterprise version into 2020 as many businesses, such as Hospitals, continue to use the stable software. I have older programs that are no longer in production, such as drafting and modification software, that will only execute on Windows XP and Windows 7 so I keep hard drives and partitions solely to run legacy Windows OS software and for trial testing.
