fai.music.metaservices.microsoft.com cannot access

I am having the same exact problem with WMP 12 on my Windows 7 PC.  It started for me on Friday (06/07/19) of last week.  I just chatted with a Tech support person on the Microsoft site and they were telling me that the site is working for them and that the problem of course is on my end.  I know that is not the case and that the site is down and they don't want to take any responsibility for the problem.  Like you I just want them to fix the down site and get it working again.  As far as I know this feature is not discontinued.  We just have to wait for them to grace us with there help by fixing there down server.  So hold on there and I will do the same.

As I stated in previous:  "Microsoft retired service" for fai.music.metaservices.Microsoft.com.  Been within the last 2 weeks for me.

Threat to empty my library.  Look, unbelievable.

as so many of you have said it's one of those things that drive you insane. I've found a work around, well, a way of temporarily working around it. Having tried WMP and WMC and having no luck, I stumbled on the following programmes that so far have been working, although there are a few extra steps to take.

For the past few days I've been using Cdex which has done a good job on naming the tracks and you can also add album art to it. It retrieves  all the metadata and is fairly quick.

You do have to do a bit of a set up such as where you want to save the ripped CD too. I just chose 'My Music', but it really only takes an extra minute or so. I then google the Album Artwork and save it to a file folder. Can then add the artwork for the CD in the program before doing the rip.

The important thing is to choose CDDB in the toolbar and then click on 'Read Remote freedb'. At this point ( I think it was at this step) you have to enter an email address to activate it. I'm not a fan of that but haven't had any increase in junk or spam emails.

It works fine with Windows Media Centre and VLC, but Windows Media Player won't show the artwork whilst the others do. I think this is again highlighting that Microsoft are trying to dictate to us what they want us to use. I'm on Win 7 Home.

I've just discovered this very same problem which has been driving me mad.

Trying to rip 100's of CD's to WMP and no data available as it keeps coming up with 'This page can't be displayed' when it tries to connect to the fai.music page.

I've searched around and it seems Microsoft have decided to end the service availability for certain operating systems. Below is a page I found with information regarding this issue....

Hope this of use to you all. I'm now stuck trying to find another program/site etc, so, if anyone has any suggestions I'll be glad of an update.

I can't believe Microsoft have done this, it seems they are happy to shoot themselves in the foot as they are going to lose customers through WMP being such an essential tool for so many customers.

Will Windows 10 ever have Windows Media Center? I have a couple of home theater systems that I run it on and would love to get album art on them one way or another.

Thanks for that RR2. I will have a trawl through the W7 registry and see if the metaservices path is in there and can be tweaked to match that in W10 - if so will post back here with Janet-and-John instructions.

I have the exact same issues as Roger - The find album info for my W7 machine stopped working around June 6, but my W10 machine is working fine.  The W10 machine appears to use a different database/server (?) as it references musicmatch-ssl.xboxlive.com while my W7 references fai.music.metaservices.microsoft.com
