Issues with 5.1 Surround Sound with Windows 10

I have trawled through so many forums (including this one) in an effort to find a fix for running 5.1 sound under Windows 10.  I have tried every one and I can say that  none of them make any difference. Stero is the only option.

I note that one forum contributor is frustrated by an apparent lack of ownership of the problem and commitment to finding a solution. I also feel the same.

All I can prove is that the speaker test works every timeon all speakers.

For the record I am running the latest version of Windows 10 Home 64 bit, a Z490 Aorus MB with an I9 processor.

Can someone from Microsoft please advise what is being done about this issue which I am sure cannot be that difficult for a company that designs and manufactures OS used all over the world!

Frustrated is an understatemt!

I can not get 5.1 Surround Sound to play for my computer with any audio player; i.e. DVD/CD optical drive, Pandora, etc. but when I run an audio test using the device manager it tests perfectly.  I have heard that there might be a compatibility issue with 5.1/7.1 Surround Sound and Windows 10.

Please let me know if anybody has had this problem and what the solution is.

I'm having similar issues, except my tests are exhibiting weird responses.

All my wiring is correct.

When I test the front left speaker in 5.1 mode, both the front left and rear left respond. Same for the front right test, both the front right and rear right speakers respond. The center, the sub and the rear left and rear right tests are completely unresponsive.

Almost like Windows is stuck on 2.0 in the test screen.

I cannot figure out the setting that is causing this.

This is not actually addressing the issue I am having. All speakers work when tested in 5.1 and 7.1   I get 5.1 sound when I watch a movie. But when I play music or watch a video online I get only the front 2 speakers. I realize it may be playing what the internet is giving but long ago I could select fill in to emulate 5.1 when music was only stereo. That went away and I have not seen it since.  Why not?

Thanks for this suggestion but I gave up trying since I have high end sound systems in other parts of my house and really didn't need it.
