Host Process For Windows Taskhostw.exe Stopped Working: Event ID 1000

Anonymous
2019-06-18T23:33:45+00:00

I noticed upon checking my Event Log Applications and my Reliability Monitor I have been getting this critical error about every 2 to 3 days now on my HP Omen i7 -16 GB Mem - Nvidia GEForce GTX 1070 on Win10 Home 64 bit and this did not start happening until I updated to v1903 on May 30^th^ . My build is 18362.239. Could someone please advise me as how to resolve this or MS deploy a fix for this. It appears I am not the only one getting these. I have reported this through the Feedback Hub. I have run all three DISMs, SFC, Malwarebytes, Norton and I turned on Windows  Defender long enough for a quick scan and no problems seen. It appears this is a scheduled task that keeps failing instead of running to completion.

ok here are the dates I have had this error:

There was one thing that I did notice in my experience of this error. People are talking about the NET update as being possibly responsible.

    On 15.6, KB4495620 was installed.

On 26.6, I got the first error.

I waited to see if it would resolve itself but it didn't. Then, I *think* what happened next was that I wondered if there was a problem with Windows Updates (because of the nature of the error and because it's happened before) and I noticed that the NET update KB4502584 was showing a yellow triangle, unable to be installed, in the Windows Update Settings.

I clicked on 'Update' and it worked. That was on 3.7. But there was no critical error on that day.

A similar thing happened with the wife's computer (or did it only happen with one? I am old so I get confused :) ).

There may be no relevance - no 'cause and effect' - but I thought that would resolve the problem, that the error was due to a failed update being 'stuck'. But it wasn't.

If this is not a windows issue then I would like ideas to what it might be? Or how to find out?

I think, perhaps, I've not explained myself sufficiently.

That this error has occurred repeatedly after the start of 1903 would make me think that that build is a problem. But that it occurred for the first time more than the time of the cycle-period we are experiencing it happening makes me think that something else has changed that triggered it - that 1903 is not robust enough to take whatever that change was.

But, it isn't occurring on all computers running 1903 (as I mentioned). I don't see why it would lie dormant for, say, two weeks and then for it to become an issue without a trigger.

It is **still** a Windows 10 issue and a problem Microsoft need to resolve as it's their OS that's spewing out the errors. Even if it's a hardware component that had a firmware update that has triggered it.

Again, I could easily be wrong. I don't have a depth of technical knowledge. I bow to the people with the knowledge here on the thread...

...but a dormant problem without a trigger? That's difficult to accept.

ok here are the dates I have had this error:

    June: 13, 15, 17, 19, 21, 22, 24, 26, 27, 29

    July: 1, 2, 4, 6, 7, 10, 12, 14

9 of them has occured around 6 am

    4                                   around 7 am

    4                                   around 9 am

    1                                   around 13 pm

    1                                   around 14 pm

I had 2 errors less than an hour after the last windows 1903/ .NET update on 10 July

In my case you can see the errors do not appear exactly 2 days apart. Most of them do, but not all of them.  They also do not occur at the exact same time.

If this is not a windows issue then I would like ideas to what it might be? Or how to find out?

if not 1903 then what? To me it looks like the windows update fits the timeline. I installed 1903 1 June and had the first error 13 june and it looks like everybody started getting this error 10-13 days after that specific update. I have uninstalled what ever useless software that was updated in the days up to 13 June, and deleted old windows updates. Neither has made a difference though. Acer Aspire 7.

Good point *but* if we are all getting the critical error messages within three days of one another and yet, as you say, two weeks elapsed after 1903, then it would more likely be something else that changed.

You may well be right - but I would have thought that a build/update error would have shown its head within three days as this seems to be the cycle between the critical errors.
