Can't repair windows

Yes first I plugged my hard drive in then i started my computer . It's not showing my hard drive.

And These are all partition of only one 500GB hard drive .

I just checked my machine, and my external USB 3.0 HDD appears...

Was your drive attached and plugged in when you started the computer ?

I don't know if it will work if it is plugged after the machine boots... The repair works different than regular windows under some conditions like that..

If you can not get the external drive to appear, you may need to use one of the other drives if they have enough room...

I'm glad you posted that picture though... I forgot to mention something about installing Windows..

It is best to unhook ALL extra drives when doing the installation... Except for a CD\DVD drive...

This is because Windows will store boot files on any drive that is attached... If you should then remove one of those drives in the future, Windows will not boot...

From your picture, I can not determine which drives are actually "Drives" or just "Partitions" on a drive..

Unfortunately that is the way windows does things...

I want to save files on my external hard drive but I am not seeing my external hard drive installed. Where to save my files so that it stay protected .

You can see in the image that only PC hard drives are availabe and you can see all my hard drives and the system reserved disk too . Now where should I save my files so that I can install yhe windows again ?

Just as a head's up concerning a Windows 7 installation...

There can be problems with doing all of the updates required afterwards...

I recently installed Win 7 Pro SP1, and I'm including my notes of the order of installation to avoid crashes and failed updates...

There is something called a "windows6.1-kb3125574-v4-x64_Convenience Rollup" that is comparable to SP2, but is not...

It also needs "Windows6.1-KB3020369-x64_Servicing Stack_4-15" installed first for it to work...

It can save a lot of time doing updates, but it caused me problems.. I did the following manually instead..

Here are my notes... You need to install Internet Explorer as soon as possible...

Windows Update does not want to work properly with the Internet Explorer 8 that is preinstalled with Windows 7...

Windows Update...  First Check Must Install Update for Windows Update... Windows Update Agent 7.6.7600.320

                   Manually Install...   KB2552343 x64... Update Freezes With Drivers Fix

                                                                         KB3135445... Fix Slow Update _ Windows 7

                                                                         KB3138612 x64...  Windows Update Client 6.1

Look out for this update, right click on it, and select "HIDE"...  It caused corruption of my installation..    Lenovo USB Blocker.. KB3107998 

Install Internet Explorer 11...

Security + Important Updates... 188 @ 1,525MB...     Important...  NO .Net Framework

Optional... 8                                           

Now Do .Net Framework..

When doing the .Net Framework updates...  Allow the "mscorsvcs" to drop to ZERO CPU before starting another batch of updates... Restart your machine and check again...

There are sometimes three of these services running at once in Taskmanager..

If you try to do too many updates at once, or start a second batch before they complete, there is a good chance they will freeze, crash, or fail...

This is the easiest way to copy\save your files...

You can copy the Program Files, but they will not able to run off the copy...

The best to reinstall Windows is to do a "Custom Installation", Delete the "System Reserved" and your current OS location... Select the "Unallocated" space, and proceed...

It might be possible to not delete anything, and simply select the Windows partition...

This would save your old Windows 7 to a "Windows.old" Folder...

My concern with doing this is that because of the System Recovery partition, your boot problem may not get fixed...

Copy\Paste From Bootable Command Prompt...

This basically works the same as any Copy\Past Function...

The screens that you work from just look different...

The drives letters will be different than from within Windows,

but their names will be the same..

Boot computer from installation media...

Select "Repair Your Computer" on the lower left of the "INSTALL" screen...

Select "Windows 7" and hit Next..

Select  "Command Prompt"

Enter NotePad into Command Prompt and hit Enter...

Click on "FILE" Tab and select "OPEN"

On the bottom of the window, set "File Type" to "All Files"... It will start out with .TXT...

Your saved files will not appear with .TXT...

Click on Computer or use the Dropdown menu to browse to the files you want to copy...

Right click on desired files and select "Copy" as normal...

Browse to the location you wish to save the files and select "Paste", again as normal...

Ignore anything on the bottom of the window concerning "SAVE", "CANCEL", and ETC., other than "File Type", which you will need...
