Windows 10 v1903 - ntoskrnl.exe & ISR/DPC latency spikes

Hi,

After updating to 1903 LatencyMon associates ntoskrnl.exe with large latency spikes on the order of ~1,300µs. Same results with KB4497935.

I posted here too as I thought it could be related to the GPU driver:

Others are also reporting similar symptoms. E.g. in some instances this results in noticeable audio clicks/pops.

Are you seeing similar results?

Does anyone at Microsoft acknowledge this?

It should be easily reproducible.

SOLUTION:

KB4505903 seems to have significantly mitigated the ntoskrnl.exe latency spikes for many users.

    Hi All, I too was having this problem when I was downloading a large file. System was shooting up to 60% and it was lagging horribly. I did however find a solution that has worked for me. I downloaded tcpoptimizer from speedguide and selected optimal. Not sure what exactly changed in the settings from default to optimal but I rebooted and downloading at 80 mb/s now and system is idling at 5%. Let me know if this works for anyone else. Thanks.

    Hello to all,

    at first i dont have a solution aswell. I just would like to solve mine. After update to 1903 i have suddenly random videlo glitchecs on netflix app ONLY on full screen. 

    I have two latency spikes.

    dxgkrnl.sys - 1700 µs 

    ntoskrnl.exe - 1700 µs

    My pc setup is following:

    Asrock Z97

    i7 4790k

    RTX 2070

    16gb RAM

    If anyone would have idea what to check it would be great. I am almost about to reinstall system completely to 1803 and just dont go to 1903 until problem is solved, but just the idea is killing me....

    After 1903 update I have done what I always have to do to avoid latency problems that interfere with sound (glitches, pops, etc). What works for me is to disable in "device administrator" panel the "High Definition Audio Controller". In my case it appears twice: one for the Realtek audio chip and one for Nvidia HDA. I use an audio interface via USB and the only audio drivers in use are the steinberg (yamaha). Otherwise if I don't disable HDA Controller (Microsoft) the driver hdaudbus.sys give problems of latency.

    After this 1903 update I had at first ntoskrnl.exe  spikes of 4000 microsec. and after disabling the two HDA Controller the problem has gone. Besides I follow the general advices to work with sound in windows (power settings, CPU throttle, performance settings, etc.)
