Windows UPDATE "We couldn't connect to the update service. We'll try again later, or you can check now. If it still doesn't work, make sure you're connected to the Internet."

What were the steps? I just updated THREE computers and NONE of them are able to connect to Windows Update. I did an "in-place upgrade" on one of them and it did not resolve the problem.

MESSAGE: "We couldn't connect to the update service. We'll try again later, or you can check now. If it still doesn't work, make sure you're connected to the Internet."

UPDATE is KB4476976 (OS Build 17763.292)

And, yes, I am connected to the internet. This is very annoying. If it is an issue/bug (and it must be) how does MS plan on rolling out a fix if users cannot connect to Windows Update? I have tried all the known fixes out there (stop/start services related to WU, run various commands in an elevated command prompt, perform an in-place upgrade, you name it. Nothing works).

Thanks.

How can this be a BT problem when this thread seems to indicate that it is worldwide and I thought that BT was only in the UK.

I thought it was a problem at my end and fully reinstalled windows. Then i see a post in Daily Express about the bug. I am a power user so changed DNS to google and downloads and store worked! Yet today 3 rd Feb at 6pm i changed it back and guess what, error is still there downloads stuck at 0 %. Changed back again to Google and downloads work fine. Microsoft seems to be blaming BT and BT blaming Microsoft. WILL SOMEBODY PLEASE GET THIS SORTED.

Any 'fix' seems to be completely random! My old, Sony Laptop ( Windows 10, home ) connected late last night; the NEW PC desktop ( Window 10 pro ) still tries to connect to update for about 2 minutes, then goes back to the message 'last checked 30/1/19.......' it's actually 03/02/2019! I'm going to wait until MS get it fixed, at least the machine still works!!!

Thanks for the response, I am obviously not such an advanced user as you are, I do not know what "clearing the cache, changing the DNS" is or how to do it, is this not MS's problem or have we all got to find our own solutions.
