Unable to disable Focus Assist

The Alarm App is a vital to me. I uses it for medication reminders. It has work flawlessly for me for a year. The Windows 10 update that introduced Focus Assist has rendered it useless. I've turned off all the options in Focus Assist. I've turned it completely off in the settings menu. I've been through forums, Google searches, I've tried everything I have found. This damn focus assist keeps turning itself back on and I'm missing my crucial alarms for when I NEED to take my pills. I toggle the feature to Off from the system tray and it stays off for about 1-2 seconds and then it switches from Off to the moon symbol. I need to destroy this feature. A DLL to delete, a service to uninstall, a registry edit.... Anything would be helpful. This focus assist garbage is breaking key essential apps that used to work fine.

I was having trouble with my computer Win 10 when the message that I could safely remove an external USB drive safely was no longer appearing
It was an issue that I realised was connected to Focus Assist which was enabled in my Notification area  – the speaking icon on the far-right side of my task bar
This is what I did to re-enable the hardware removal warning message and to stop Focus Assist from automatically re- appearing when I didn’t want it to
1 Right click Notification Icon and click to turn Focus Assist Off
    2. Click Notification Icon
    3 Click All Settings
    4 Click System
    5 Click Focus Assist
    6. Automatic Rules – these are the settings I am now using which seems to be stopping Focus Assist from automatically reappearing
During these times, 11:00pm-7:00am, Priority Only – Off
When I am duplicating my display, Alarms Only  - ON
When playing a game, Priority Only  – On
When using App in Full Screen Mode, Alarms Only  – Off
This last one seems to have done the trick
Focus Assist is staying off and I am getting the warning message about it being safe to remove hardware
    Hope this info helps someone

Thank  you for sharing.  Could you now share with me how to force the May 2019 update.  I assume my updates are current; yet, I continue to have the same issue as you and many others did.

The desktop turns on Focus Assist. If you show desktop or close all apps, Focus Assist turns on. Forget the troubleshooting, tried it all, it's bugged.

I forced the May 2019 update. So far it looks like they've fixed the problem. I have focus assist turned off and now I'm getting all my alarms.
