Windows 10 1809 update deleted all files from Documents!

Last night I updated to 1809, and it all went smoothly, but then I find that all my files in Documents are DELETED. Gone. Poof. This included many crucial documents and financial info. Yes, I have a backup (I think - using Windows Backup to a NAS). But this is pretty bad. Did no one in the first two rings run into this yet?

I understand (from the news) that this happens to all files in Documents that aren't synced to OneDrive. Further, the Documents folder is really an agglomeration of "Documents" from several different paths - not sure how that works, and it may or may not relate.

Not had a good experience with this 1809 update. Initially when I restarted my computer I had no photos, pictures or documents. I found my documents in Windows.old and moved them to the desktop placing them into the Documents file. When I came to reuse the computer again my picture and music were there but my documents had vanished again, even though they were the only things on the computer previously !?! They were now not in the Windows.old files. Tried a restore but that didn't not fish them out. Recovery software is difficult to run on my computer via a USB stick. Suspect they have gone into the ether.

Microsoft seem to of gone to sleep on 0344 800 2400 and keep disconnecting, leaving these forums to find a "magic" answer to this.

Are you saying you have just received version 1809 of Windows 10 that was released in October 2018.

My computer just got the 1809 update about 2 or 3 weeks ago... (even though I use it daily and windows does its updates regularly)....

It totally borked my account, all my documents were missing, my desktop was wiped, it was totally jacked... Thankfully I was able to rollback to the previous version and everything was okay. I've paused updating until I get a chance to do a full backup this weekend then I'll give it another shot.

This 1809 update is faaaaaaaaaaaaar from seamless... I've read so many horror stories from the past few months. IMO Microsoft should have not re-released it until they tested it more thoroughly and ensured it wasn't going to wipe people's systems like it is still doing. Especially with forced updates now it is more critical than ever.

Just an FYI... but this code doesn't work due to being already used.... but the software itself is great for displaying WHERE the missing files are, and now I'll just have to see about getting them put back ......  But thank you for the update and info on this EaseUse Data Recovery Tool.......  I'm also looking at that "Lost Partitions" link as well to see if that might help too.......

    Thanks.

Thanks for letting me know. I  asked EaseUS if we could get some codes that work temporarily and I got a few. These will only work for the next few months, which is what I was told, so use them now. Remember, it was for v11.5. If it still doesn't work, let me know.

    Codes:

    SYGJB-STUUR-GHVJM-HGFAE-YUYT4

    UTIYH-GRD5YH-YRIT7RY-IYEIUG-8756

    HJDFA-GDJSU-ERHBV-MDJYG-UGGJY

    5F6FE-R4567-UIHJG-VFDR5-678UI

    6T78J-HGFCD-RE567-IUJGF-TR67I

    7AZ8I-UJGFR-T6578-UIJGFTR67I

    DER45-67YUH-VGFDR-E456T-6TF3Y

If these don't work let me know.

Im about to do the same thing but not through easeUS but why shoukd i have to pay to fix their mistake

Hello again CWW and Derrold.   Yes, I just wrote you guys today and mentioned to use: EaseUS Recovery Manager, the free home version. And, yes I know, Reimage  also, yet, I found EaseUs to be free and reliable also. Try it.    I also understand that millions of people lost a lot if not everything and it is horrible but like i said Microsoft Is fixing that 1809 update with patches and corrections in this last update with more security using the new Edge browser.  The only reason I didn't mention the old.file temp folder is because I have and also use Avast security and also there cleanup manager Which deletes old files and reg items. And, yes again you or I could still retrieve them back-again if I chose to.  I'm just so sorry guys for i do fully understand how painstaking this who Windows 10 System is at the moment for i too still find myself doing research looking for other ways to fix things I fully don't know nor understand with this also. it's messed up and not a simple system. Even adding users or changing our possible wrong admin name is difficult.  Win 10 is here to stay my friends so learn all you can but didn't get discouraged Ok? Lord bless, Michael.

One last note: It WILL find all your files. I have a 1TB HDD and it found 999GB of data so it will find everything. I have just used it and it worked. Note: The free version only lets you recover 500MB of data so that is why you have to get the full version. This code should work (Don't worry, it's mine) if you click the key icon C8XIP–2YHL2-39UMI-QVR56-4CI6L.
