windows 10 (October 2018 update) (version 1809) deleted all my files

I have just updated my windows using the October update (10, version 1809) it deleted all my files of 23 years in amount of 220gb. This is unbelievable, I have been using Microsoft products since 1995 and nothing like that ever happened to me.

Files were located at C:/Users/rober/Documents/

This location is still present, with no files. All of files deleted.

I am extremely upset. Not sure what to do….please let me know.

    A long time. I assume he had that much online storage and it didnt randomly just sucessfully upload everything he had in his user folders else it would have given an 'online storage full' msg

    I don't seem to have an online recycle bin, so no luck there, unless it's somewhere besides the "OneDrive" folder.

    Definitely wasn't anything in my local Recycle Bin.

    I have not heard a common thread, yet.

    I upgraded a laptop w/ a simple single HD (worked fine). (Asus/AMD)

    I then upgraded a desktop w/ several HDs, and an SSD. Various types of user data were on various drives - worked fine. (Asus/Intel)

    I next upgraded a laptop w/ a single HD, with a small start-up partition. All of the files in My Documents were deleted. (HP/Intel)

    None of these computers back up to the Cloud, except a random few small sub-directories, which were still intact. 

    All of these computers were upgraded the same way, by asking Win10 to check for updates, which I do at least once a week. They all started automatically performing this upgrade when checking in this way.

    I had backups of the laptop that was trashed that are only a day or two old. I was not able to recover them, using my backup software (Seagate Dashboard Agent) which I run every couple of weeks onto a USB portable drive. I have been able to locate some of them on the portable drive, and am manually copying them back to the HD on the trashed laptop. I still don't know the extent of what I lost, as this has taken me all day, so far, and it looks like a long weekend. This is a main work computer for me, so it's important to get it back up and running as soon as possible. 

    I'm so frustrated with Microsoft right now, it's probably not appropriate for me to even say how I feel, on this Forum....let's just say I'm "beside myself with disbelief" that this could have occurred. A major manufacturer like this has a responsibility to their paying public to provide a better level of quality control than this. The bummer is, I just bought MS Office365 - you can be sure I wouldn't have, had this already occurred!

    Go into your one drive website and go to recycle bin. All of my files were there, yours should hopefully be there too. 

    I have not attempted to update any of my 4 PCs from 1803 to 1809, and have been making sure I have complete backups in anticipation of the worst.  I'm following all the postings about this issue, and it's amazing how you've stumbled upon all your missing files in your online recycle bin!  I hope everyone who has been affected tries that with the same success.  It would be pretty incredible if Robert Ziko's 220 GB of missing files wound up there.  I mean, how long must it have taken to upload all that data to the cloud?
