I have just updated my windows using the October update (10, version 1809) it deleted all my files of 23 years in amount of 220gb. This is unbelievable, I have been using Microsoft products since 1995 and nothing like that ever happened to me.

Files were located at C:/Users/rober/Documents/

This location is still present, with no files. All of files deleted.

I am extremely upset. Not sure what to do….please let me know.

Robert

I now have my machine working (for the most part). I had to delete all the partitions on my SSD (250GB). The system drive was very full before the install and there seemed to be something wrong with one of the partitions when I went to do a full windows install. I even ran SpinRite (level 2) on it to make sure the SSD was functioning OK, so I was fairly confident that the drive was working.

Now I am in the process of loading all my programs back onto the system. I'll not be installing any large programs on the SSD this time (e.g. World of Warships). I'd rather keep the SSD under 75% full and only have my most critical programs on that drive.

Thankfully, I had everything backed up on 2 other drives as well as cloud backups turned on, so I didn't loose anything other than 2 days of my life (and my stack of Outlook rules to manage my mailbox). Now, if I can remember to get all the backup and other redundant processes all set up again.

Just lost a lot of important data from this past week. family Pictures, Documents, Videos, and The update corrupted my windows installation, causing all recovery types to fail. my C drive was full of unfixable errors, Had to install windows to another drive. All my user files are completely empty on all drives where only program data is intact but needs reinstalling to correct install paths, and onedrive only has folder names but they are empty as well. This is devastating. I don't even know how to move forward with the losses.

As I said...if you didn't run it as a clean install then you will find your files and folders in C/Users/ your abbreviated account name/email id

Go to C/Users and look for the appropriate folder then open it.

    Hello!

Please, do not try to install on your disk any software or Windows or copy to it any files.

Please, use recovery software like Handy Recovery and you have a big chance to recovery all of your data!

    Good luck!
