windows 10 (October 2018 update) (version 1809) deleted all my files

I have just updated my windows using the October update (10, version 1809) it deleted all my files of 23 years in amount of 220gb. This is unbelievable, I have been using Microsoft products since 1995 and nothing like that ever happened to me.

Files were located at C:/Users/rober/Documents/

This location is still present, with no files. All of files deleted.

I am extremely upset. Not sure what to do….please let me know.

    They're not deleted. The links are pointing to the OneDrive (new) folders for Documents, Pictures, etc. You can navigate to the folder under Users and see the original Documents, Pictures, etc folders with all the data. (Happened to me, panicked, worked through it.)

    Either replace the links in File Explorer or move the data to the new folders under your OneDrive folder.

    Hello Greg, Ziko and others.

    Since 10 years ago I`ve adopting the practice of having two or more HARD DRIVES in my PC (in desktop units it can easily be added). Now, together with the SSD drive for current diary use, I've installed four more HD's. It is easy to do incremental backups and keep information at safe place. These HD's, because more unfrequented access because the main access storage will be to SSD, tends to endure for longer lifetime, and then are a safer place to do periodic backup. I do like not storing my personal and crucial data on the cloud...

    have any of you actually compared before and after hdd space used? if it is still the same size the files are there. nobody claiming lost files has answered that...

    Space is greater than before. I don‘t know the exact amount.

    Every time there's a feature update, there are people who complain that all their files have been erased. But if there was a 'bug' in the update, wouldn't you think that it would affect just about everybody? We all get the same updates, after all.

    So how is it that the majority of Windows 10 PC users don't lose any files at all after an update (including me?) Could there be another explanation?
