Files not synced - OneDrive

I am having an issue with my OneDrive synch client (they newest version) that says all files are synched, yet in the documents folder the icons do not match (and appear that the documents are not synched).  I spent 30 plus hour on the phone with Office 365 (who made matters worse at first) but then we've been able to determine with a second windows profile created (i.e. what you login windows with) that this does not occur.  They told me to contact the windows team to have them investigate my profile on the back end (i.e. their servers) as my account might have issues.  I then contacted the windows team (and asked for a supervisor) and this person (even after looking at the exact email from the Office 365 team stating my windows ID likely was corrupted) refused to help except to just delete the ID entirely.  Given this windows login ID is tied to a bunch of documents, etc. on this computer, it seems like there has to be another option.  Or how do I copy everything over to the new ID?

    Oops, I thought you were Hoyas97 in my last response to you.

    Well, that's right, you must get them out of OneDrive for them to be computer resident only. Even using that Auto Save tab, actually the folder is removed from OneDrive & back to where it came from - I think. I should try it really. But I like them to be protected!

    Are you saying they stay put, but their icon changes?

    Edit 10/29:  The folders & files are not removed. I had to move them myself.

    Unprotected folders and files have no sync icons.  

    You are supposed to pull files out of the OneDrive folder on your PC to keep them out of the cloud.

    That is true, except, I too believe, for what Craig said about the "Auto Save tab, Update Folders button"...

    If you stop protecting them, they will become computer resident only. The folders will move out of the OneDrive folder, I think, & up a level into the User folder probably. But you may also need to go online & delete the folders there - afterwards. Chances are, if you delete them at the site first, they disappear on the computer too. But likely they end up in the Recycle Bin at the site.

    Edit 10/29:  Turning off Protection does not move the files currently on OneDrive. It just sets new files to go to the old (unprotected) location they came from. That's in C:\Users<Username><Foldername>. One must move the existing files/folders oneself, if desired; then, they also end up in the online RecycleBin. Sheesh.
