Windows 10, Version 1809. Network does not show computers

In Win10, v 1809 I go to "Network" in file explorer and no computers are showing - neither my computer nor other computers on the network.

I was able to find the ip address of the computer I was searching for and successfully ping it via command prompt.

Any ideas?

    I'm happy to see this worked for you also. The services are set are set as follows on my PC:

    1. Function Discovery Provider Host: Manual start, not running
    2. Function Discovery Resource Publication: Automatic, running
    3. SSDP Discovery: Manual, running (I don't know why it is running if it is set to manual start without a trigger)
    4. UPnP Device Host: Manual, not running

    I've set my network profile as private while configuring Windows after install.

    Hopefully, the trigger will not reappear in future updates. At least, we know what to do if it does.

    I agree with you, MS should have fixed this a long time ago.

    I did this same test with two PC's which run 20H1 (build 19013.1000) and one run 19H2 (build 18363.449)

    and I get same result that you have.

    Sharing was working and File Explorer show all 3 connected PC's under 'Network' when workaround was disabled and RDP enabled.

    I leave these settings on to see how it work on everyday usage.

    I have this problem on and off since v 1809.  Now at 1903.  Problem only exists on 2-3 year old Dell desktop.  Other computers on my network are older HP desktop and older Dell laptop.  All W10 V1903.  Strangely, the problem only exists on my newer Dell desktop.  It could not see itself, but could see the other two.  The other two could see each other, but not the newer Dell.  This is a great fix!  Thank you!

    Glad that the workaround takes care of the problem.

    My machines with the problem are 5 years old or even 8 or more.

    Dell XPS 8300 Desktop

    Dell XPS 8700 Desktop

    MSI GT70-0NC Laptop

    They only fail when connected through Ethernet and not when connected with Wi-Fi.

    I have a similar problem with Version 1903. One machine does not show on the FS Network display. Resetting Function Discovery Resource Publication makes it visible but only until a restart. The default setting is Manual(triggered) changing this to  Automatic has no effect ie you stilll need to reset it manually.

    I don't lnow if it is significant but the invisible machine is wired, other machines are on WiFi.

    Not so for me. Upgraded 1809 - 1903 last night and the issue still persists!
