Unable to turn off “Restricted Mode is enabled by your network administrator” in YouTube, but IAM the administrator. Help!

Hi all,

Here’s the nub of the problem: 

YouTube says: “Restricted Mode is enabled by your network administrator.” but I AM the administrator of my own home pc. I'm totally mystified as to how this got activated in the first place and I can't find a way of undoing it. How do I switch this off?!?

I’m using Windows 7 and Google Chrome on a home computer. Any chance anyone could help me (and the no doubt countless others out there plagued with the same problem) out?

I’ve already trawled YouTube and Chrome forums on this and have drawn a dud at every turn. No help there. The problem is not a Family Safety issue, as I don’t have a family account. So you are quite possibly my last hope of resolving this.

I’ve even tried the regedit route (i.e. switching the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Google\Chrome\ForceSafeSearch register key value to 0), but that, too, was a dead end because no such Google key or policy exists in the Policies folder on my pc.

I’m not a PC expert, so you may need to spell things out in fairly plain English for me.

    There is no reboot disc for my HP Chromebook :-(

    I had the same problem.  After buying the new Samsung S10+, I thought it was the phone.  Then I did the search online like everyone.  The I realize what it was.  

    Note, I did NOT have these issues on the new Samsung 5Se Tablet or my Acer computer at home. On my home computer I have ADGUARD, MALEWAREBYTES and Kasperky Total Security, now Bit Defender Total Security.  On my tablet the same minus Adguard.  On my phone, the same as my computer.  

    I am NOT sure this will help everyone....but after going BONKERS checking every security and nook and cranny....I realize when I opened up Adguard on my computer and phone SIDE BY SIDE....and went down all the settings....to make sure all the check marks matched....only one did not....and that was on the computer.

    On my computer...I did NOT set the HOME Parental Thingy.

    01:  Go to Adguard, then Settings

    02:  DNS Filtering

    03:  Select DNS Server

    ******04:  4 whatever reason, I chose to NOT use Stem default.  I chose to use AdGUard DNS Family Protection.  When you see this, it says....adult content blocking.  When I fiddled back and fourth with this one and the REGULAR DNS....and went back and fourth numero uno times on youtube.....I REALIZED....in AdGUARD....EITHER USE SYSTEM DEFAULT, REGULAR ADGUARD DNS ....BUT ANYTHING BESIDES anything WITHOUT THE {FAMILY} listed.

    IT WORKED FOR ME......YIPEE!!!   =0P  =0P  =0P  And it took me over 72 hrs. to figure this out....SHEESH!!!!

    GOOD LUCK EVERYONE.....HOPE THIS HELPS.  PLEASE SHARE W/OTHERS AS I AM SHARING W/YOU.   THANKS!!!
