Why does my Onedrive.exe file disappear from the %appdata%\local\microsoft\onedrive folder?

For some reason, my onedrive.exe program gets deleted after a day from the %appdata%\local\microsoft\onedrive folder.

I have uninstalled OneDrive and then reinstalled it.  The program works for a day, but then the following day I notice that the OneDrive icon is not in my taskbar (i.e. OneDrive stopped running) and then when I go to launch the program, it says it can't fine OneDrive.  I navigate to the folder (noted above) and the OneDrive.exe file is no longer there.

This is really strange.

Can someone help?

Just a quick update.  It has been since June 5 when I installed version 18.091.0506.0006 and I have not had any problems thus far.

The link given goes to the stable release, not the Insider release. If you are on insider, then you need a different download, as far as I can work out.

What I did a couple of days ago is open the folder 18.101.0520.0002, in my case. Inside was OneDriveSetup.exe

    I double clicked on that.

It put a OneDrive.exe in the OneDrive root folder and so far it has worked.

The folder number are the release downloads. Using the link I have given you, work out which of those is the most recent and use the set up file in that.

That is probably 0506 one, but double check for yourself.

I don't know whether this will work, but it is worth a try!

You may not need to uninstall anything first, by the way.

MaRoselle - if people are on insider then that download will be the wrong one. You need to download the current Insider release or you could end up all over the place.

This may be a better link:

Pretty much same thing happened to me.

I am somewhat relieved that others are having this problem as well but am not sure what to do.

I am considering a “refresh” which would require me to reinstall a bunch of applications.

    Thoughts?

    Obviously a pattern here.

After it didn't work yesterday. I deinstalled OneDrive completely from my system (including all data left in %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive).

Reinstalled the version linked to by MaRoselle Cag.

Synchronizing was a pain (lots of sync errors), thus I also needed to remove data from my local client and synced from scratch.

It worked fine then for 24hrs. Then the issue appeared again. In  %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive there are now 4 sub folders (18.025.0204.0009 / 18.065.0329.0002 / 18.091.0506.0006 and 18.091.0506.0006_1) whereas the latter one creating the issue. The *exe can be found in both folders *006 and *006_1 but when starting manually, an error message pops up asking for a dll in *002.

As a workaround I copied the *exe into *002 folder and started the program from there. It seems to work but unsure if this a stable solution.
