file explorer not showing thumbnails for onedrive folder

Many of my images have no thumbnail in my users one drive folder, even for files that are downloaded to my pc.

Full path C:\Users\myuser\OneDrive\Pictures\Camera Roll

How can I fix this? There was a time when thumbnails always worked for this folder, but I can't remember when this stopped working, it's been a couple/few weeks perhaps.

Also, why are some of the images near the end only available online. In my one drive settings this entire folder is set to sync.

I had the same issue and to fix it I went into the settings of the One Drive app and disabled (untick) the Files On Demand service then hit OK. Then after a restart of the PC all thumbnails within my One Drive folders had returned.

No I idea why this works but it did for me and hopefully will do for you also.

The total and entire purpose is for the backup.

    NOT sync-ing removes that possibility.

The product should work as advertised, for the price I pay every year.

I looked all over, tried multiple online fixes, unfortunately they didn't work.  A few hours later, fixing turned out to be disgustingly simple.   Uninstalled OneNote app, rebooted, and reinstalled.   Problem fixed, KISS worked :).

I have tried EVERY suggestion over the course of nearly 2 years.

    NONE work.

While OneDrive is a great product for some things, it has some serious issues that keep it from being "good enough."

A record I saved 60 days ago - great, wonderful, wow. But I work on records for months/years, and those do not display.

You are using the OneDrive sync utility. I would recommend just using OneDrive directly from the Office 365 portal if that is possible for you.

It sounds like your files on demand is hung somehow. Maybe if you disassociate then re-associate your OneDrive account with the sync utility then your files will display as desired.

    Solved my problem. Many thanks.

Just wish I had found this post a few days earlier. Would have saved me a lot of work.
