file explorer not showing thumbnails for onedrive folder

Many of my images have no thumbnail in my users one drive folder, even for files that are downloaded to my pc.

Full path C:\Users\myuser\OneDrive\Pictures\Camera Roll

How can I fix this? There was a time when thumbnails always worked for this folder, but I can't remember when this stopped working, it's been a couple/few weeks perhaps.

Also, why are some of the images near the end only available online. In my one drive settings this entire folder is set to sync.

I had the same issue and to fix it I went into the settings of the One Drive app and disabled (untick) the Files On Demand service then hit OK. Then after a restart of the PC all thumbnails within my One Drive folders had returned.

No I idea why this works but it did for me and hopefully will do for you also.

It doesn't work for me too.

Are you using the default location of OneDrive in another drive than (C) like I do ?? This is the main issue for me..

This worked for me, but is very difficult to do for thousands of photos.  But this solution might offer a clue.

What happens to the files, particularly the thumbnail files when you pull photos off onedrive, put them on the PC, and then return them to onedrive?  Somehow the thumbnail is reconnected to the photo or at least a new thumbnail is created.  Why can't OneDrive do this internally?  I know, a question for Microsoft, but since this solution works 100 percent of the time for me, I am curious if any one here might have a clue.

No other solution here worked except this one.

    Regards,

    Ed G

You have NO idea how much I appreciate this.  I've asked countless forums and individuals.  I've rebuilt thumbnails... and tried all sorts of stuff in the slightest hope it would work.  You are awesome my friend.

    Cheers.  :)
