(error 0x000007d1) on Printer

Hello;

Since I have updated to the new version 1803, my Brother's HL-L2340DW Mono Laser printer will not print, and receive this error code. I have uninstalled this drivers and program 3 time and reinstalled it. It is setup for wireless. It says that the printer is there and working, but no print. It says that it has a invalid driver. So, somewhere in your programming of 1803 version Microsoft had changed something. Because it used to work flawlessly. I don't think this is a Brother's driver problem, but a Microsoft drivers problem. Fix it please! I want my printer to work again. And don't tell me it is a Brother's problem when I know it all started with the version of 1803. This is a screen shot of the error code that I get. I was trying to print a test page.

Thank You

Based on your post on printing, I think that the Microsoft Virtual Agent can help you troubleshoot your issue. It'll walk you through the right troubleshooting steps based on the specific problem you're facing.

Please let us know if this solved your issue.

I tried several times to start fresh, deleting everything and all drivers relating to the HL2270, and then installing the 2012 drivers downloaded from Brother.  That did not work - still got the invalid driver message.  After reading the posts in this thread, I then deleted the PostSPUpgrade key, and started fresh again with a new driver installation, but that still did not resolve the printing issue and the "invalid driver" box.

I finally did get the printer to start working again by starting fresh one more time.  I downloaded the uninstall tool from the Brother website and uninstalled the printer and driver, so that there were no references anywhere to the Brother printer, or if there were I deleted those (after running the uninstall tool from Brother, I was able to get around Windows refusal to delete the Brother driver package because it spuriously claimed the driver was in use).

Now, with the Brother HL2270 driver and hardware completely removed in all respects, I pulled out the original installation CD that came with the printer, disconnected the 2270 and hooked up a portable CD drive to the computer, and then followed the installation instructions, just as if the printer were newly acquired and being installed for the first time.  After that installation, the printer worked again.  I have not tried to update the driver, because of fear that it will again become nonfunctional, but at least it appears to be printing without problem now.  The deletion of the PostSPUpgrade key, before the printer and driver re-installation from the CD, may have helped here, but I don't know for sure.

Hi I am having problems re-linking my computer & printer, wouldn't work with wi-fi was told to connect with USB cable, still won't work. Have the above error code coming up but I'm pretty computer illiterate & don't understand how to follow the solution I saw below HELP someone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How do I launch the feedback hub 1st of all?

    Hi Susan,

I had the same problem but couldn't afford the time to go through the process of the feedback hub (sorry Microsoft), I was in dire need of an urgent fix and just went with the workaround.

Trying to put it into simpler terms (the workaround....),

the "windows key" is the key between the "Fn" and "Alt" keys (left bottom of keyboard), hold the "windows key" down and press  the "R" key

This will open a dialogue box (bottom left of screen) called "Run" - next to where it says "Open:", type    regedit     and then click "OK"

There may be another pop-up that will ask: Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device - Registry Editor - click YES

    The Registry Editor will open

Starting under "Computer" look down the list until you see an entry "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE"

Click the "right arrow/(greater than)" next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and it will expand the next section and look down that list for "SYSTEM"

Click the "right arrow" next to SYSTEM and it will expand the next section and look down that list for "CurrentControlSet"

Click the "right arrow" next to CurrentControlSet and it will expand the next section and look down that list for "Control"

Click the "right arrow" next to Control and it will expand the next section and look down that list for "Print"

Click the "right arrow" next to Print and it will expand the next section and look down that list for "PostSPUpgrade"

Click on this entry - PostSPUpgrade - it should now be highlighted (it is important that this is the entry that is highlighted)

Look for the "Edit" tab (top left hand corner of the Registry Editor) - click on it and a drop down box will appear - click on "Delete"

Close the Registry Editor and restart your PC.

Hopefully you will be bathed in joy and wonderfulness when you find that you can now print again.
