HomeGroup is gone in Windows 10 version 1803!

My PC upgraded to Windows 10 Pro version 1803 yesterday during automatic updates. This morning I attempted to view files in my network. Home Group is no longer available in this newest update. It seems in their wisdom they decided it was not needed and provided other solutions to share files/directories. I following the instructions to share files/directories via Windows Explorer. Guess what? You can not share directories only individual files at one time. This is not acceptable. After much trial and error I found a work around. As long as you have the name of the PC in your network you can enter "\PCNAME" and it should give you access. Bring back Home Group to the Windows operating system!

    Microsoft is acting like Big Brother ('1984' Orwell for younger folks) with products we paid for!  They keep taking control of the OS away from the users.  Its probably time to start hitting up your elected officials to further regulate MS. I don't like nor want Mac products, but MS sure is driving people that way.  This isn't a free product like Facebook or Google where you give consent through usage, but MS sure is trying to collect that same information.  Oligopolies must be stopped or regulated for paid products.

    No surprise there. Microsoft did advertise for months that HomeGroup was being retired. To me, it never worked anyways. Good riddance.

    Was working fine for me.  Suddenly gone.  BS.

    Thanks for your solution which incidentally fixed PC #1, but didn't fix my second PC.

    All my network devices now appear (NAS, Printer, TV and both PC's)

    By the way, only PC#1 has had the 1803 update. I'll guess I'll have to do this again when #2 gets its update.

    The remaining 10% fix to see all of my files under the root of Steve, i.e. C:\Users\Steve is as follows:

    6)  On both PC and laptop

            1)  Steve -> Properties -> Security -> Check - List content, Read (check all to skip 7 below)

            2)  Give access to specific People should see

                1)  Steve

                2)  HomeUsers - Custom, with Read and Read/Write options

            3)  In Specific People drop-down menu, should see as for above

        7)  On both PC and laptop

            1)  Give access to -> Specific People -> HomeUsers - Read/Write -> Share (seems to be the 1803 default method, see: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4092694/windows-10-changes-to-file-sharing-over-a-network)

        8)  On both PC and laptop now back to pre-1803 state

    I wrote: " 2)  root of Steve C:\Users\Steve later showed up under both Networked computers , I may have missed a step here."  Did I miss anything here as I was writing this from memory "after the fact"?

    I am about 90% there.  I just need to figure out how to see all of my files under the root of Steve, i.e. C:\Users\Steve.  I sometimes edit and move s ome of the config files between the PC and the laptop s that are located here.
