HomeGroup is gone in Windows 10 version 1803!

Like others, after the Windows 10 version 1803 my HomeGroup is gone and I lost my network and mapped network drives.  I have been able to get some but not all of the previous functionality back as outlines below:

1)  On both PC and laptop

    1)  Run services.msc

    2)  Function Discovery Resource Publication - make sure that it is set to automatic, stop and then start services

    3)  Reboot PC and laptop

2)  Now on both PC and laptop can see the following:

    1)  Network shows both computers on both computers

    2)  Networked computers only shows Network\DESKTOP_Other_Computer\Users\Default

        1)  laptop also shows printer connected to PC

         2)  root of Steve C:\Users\Steve later showed up under both Networked computers , I may have missed a step here.

    3)  Mapped network drives show

3)  On both PC and laptop at root of Steve C:\Users\Steve

    1)  Give access to specific People should see:

        1)  Steve

    2)  In Specific People drop-down menu, should see

        1)  Acronis Agent User

        2)  Administrator

        3)  Steve

        4)  Steven Last_Name (my_account@my_email.net) ***DO NOT USE***

        5)  Everyone

        6)  Create new user

4)  On both PC and laptop at Documents, Downloads, Music, Pictures, and Videos of C:\Users\Steve

    1)  Give access to specific People should see:

        1)  Steve

        2)  HomeUsers - Read/Write

    2)  In Specific People drop-down menu should see

        1)  Acronis Agent User

        2)  Administrator

        3)  Steve

        4)  Steven Last_Name (my_account@my_email.net) - DO NOT USE

        5)  Everyone

        6)  Create new user                        

5)  On PC and laptop can only see Documents, Downloads, Music, Pictures, and Videos of root C:\Users\Steve but cannot see any files or other folders like vimfiles and AppData of root C:\Users\Steve but before update could see and edit these files and folders.

Note the following:

1)  Acronis Agent User is for my backup software

2)  Where under Give access to specific People I can see both Steve and HomeUsers, I can also see files along with subfolders

3. Where under Give access to specific People I can see only Steve, I cannot see any files.

My current conclusion is that there must be a difference somewhere in the permissions between the root of Steve C:\Users\Steve and Documents, Downloads, Music, Pictures and Videos.

This evening, I was in an on-line chat with an offshore Microsoft tech support person who only made the situation worse by selecting Steven Last_Name (my_account@my_email.net) in the Specific People drop-down menu  I made it very clear to him that he could remote in an LOOK BUT NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES and the guy made some changes to my PC.  Microsoft needs to better train their offshore support staff!

If anyone knows how I restore my pre version 1803 state of seeing files and other folders in root C:\Users\Steve, then please let me know.

Computer 2 (Windows 7 O/S) now sees Computer 1 (Windows 10 O/S), but the personalfolder of Computer 1 is not listed.  There is listed under Network > Computer 1 > Users only the two folders Default and Default.migrated.  On Computer 1, I had previously given "view and edit" access to specific subfolders under personalname folder, but not to all of them.  So, now that the personalfoldername does not appear, it is now impossible to get to those subfolders of Computer 1 when I am on Computer 2.  All of those subfolders on Computer 1 still show the earlier permissions that had been earlier set by "view and edit".   But, as I say, whereas I used to be able to get to the personalfolder of Computer 1, now I can't.  There must be some other way to get access.  I had let Windows 10 manage HomeGroup and now Windows 10 is managing it so that I can't see any of the folders that I want/need to see on Computer 1. 

I need some direction on how to do this.

I agree!  I have avoided Apple products for decades, but crap like this is making a MAC look more desirable.

How can MS be so damned arrogant when they totally kill something that was working just fine before the update. Now I have to jump through complicated hoops to share again???

I need to share my entire D: drive to another computer in the home, now this looks difficult if not impossible? Still researching, hoping I do not have to spend thousands to upgrade all my home computers to MAC to get away from the MS jerks.  8>(

Finally got the Shared folders from both to show on Computer 2 in its Network, but Comp 2 is showing its name on Comp 1 but won't actually connect to its shared folder, meaning I have to do all the sharing via Comp 2 which still gets the job done. As far as the Outlook on Comp 1, which also relates to Exchange and GoDaddy. Uninstalled Office, Went to GoDaddy and reset the Office365 password, and reset Outlook thee, and then reinstalled Office (2013) on the computer and finally got outlook to get the latest and NOT ask for the MSAccount pw again. Actually didn't get it to do anything, one of those wonderful fixes that you never know what actually did it. Knocking on wood...

My PC upgraded to Windows 10 Pro version 1803 yesterday during automatic updates. This morning I attempted to view files in my network. Home Group is no longer available in this newest update. It seems in their wisdom they decided it was not needed and provided other solutions to share files/directories. I following the instructions to share files/directories via Windows Explorer. Guess what? You can not share directories only individual files at one time. This is not acceptable. After much trial and error I found a work around. As long as you have the name of the PC in your network you can enter "\PCNAME" and it should give you access. Bring back Home Group to the Windows operating system!

I quite Agree I have also lost my Homegroup on the Automatic update as it is getting difficult to stop it from doing it as it downloads and updates when you shut down without any warning!!?? This wouldn't be a problem if it all worked but time and time again now the updates cause untold problems, this is why you then need the next update because the first one was rubbish. Sorry but the guys and girls at Microsoft need to get there act together. Not Amused. More wasted time fixing problems not of my making. You get the impression they don't test and don't care.
