I just received a call from her as well. the number was 1888 396 6735. once she gets on the line states not to hang up.
This happens at least once a month.

I also received a call from "Microsoft Refund Dept.". Since I didn't pick up they left a computer generated message stating her name as Kathy Jackson from tech support and to call 877 721 7434. for my refund. The reason I am posting this is I wanted to see if anyone else received such messages. Imagine my surprise when I realized the first comment about this subject was posted 2013!!! That was five years ago. Five years of people being scammed, losing money and whatever else. How could this still be happening without them being stopped? And the first one I saw was from the Netherlands, meaning this is an international scam. AND it was on this site. Doesn't anyone at Microsoft oversee their own site?

2019-01-29T03:05:24+00:00 In 2014 my [now] 82 year old mother was scammed out of more than $800 and someone halfway across the country tried to use her credit card 2 days later when these guys were masquerading as Microsoft Support. So of course this year they called again saying they were being forced to close and issue refunds and she immediately became excited that she might get her money back. Fortunately this time she called me to ask about it BEFORE she talked to them. I assured her it's not actually Microsoft, there is no refund and that it's just another scam to steal more of her money.
The weirdest part of it is that I tried to call them back from my cellphone at both numbers they'd left in the messages - I was hoping to deter them from wanting to call her anymore - but it just rings once and then immediately hangs up but when I called them from her phone they answered right away. It seems like they only have the phone numbers which they are actively trying to scam whitelisted so nobody else can contact them! These guys are definitely good at getting away with what they're doing.
I'd really like to how to get them to stop calling my mom. She's had the same landline number for over 30 years, so I really don't want to suggest she change her number, but these constant calls are giving her serious anxiety!

2019-01-29T04:33:09+00:00 Suggestion: I am assuming it is a landline. Most carriers allow you to block a small number of calls for free. If she has already used up her allowance, delete the oldest one and add this one. Hope this works for you.

2019-02-02T01:01:50+00:00 I also have been recieving phone calls stating I had a refund. I was unsure if this was actually Microsoft due to I did call regarding a charge that I did not make.
But I arrived to work today and when I answered the company phone there was a recording saying do not hang up this is Microsoft and we are closing the doors and and want to start your refund and left a phone number.
