My PC is working really normal before update. After I update my windows 10 the system show this message.
C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop is unavailable. If the location is on this PC, make sure the device or drive is connected or the disc is inserted, and then try again. If the location is on a network, make sure you're connected to the network or internet, and then try again. If the location still can't be found, it might have been moved or deleted. - OK
Then I click ok after that I only see recycle bin and task bar, which can not do anything background is black, so I restart by using ctrl+alt+delete and run safe mode(safe mode with network).
In safe mode it has no This PC it just has recycle bin and some program and I can't open any file location of any program after that I turn off my pc for 30 sec then open it the result is
C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop is not accessible
Access is denied. -OK
Only recycle bin and task bar and black background again.
I have no idea to fix this problem any more. Please I really need some help. THANK YOU. My English is not professional I hope you understand my message.

Open Windows File Explorer
On the View Ribbon, check the box marked 'Hidden Items'
C:\users\Default\
Right click and copy the Desktop folder contained in the Default Folder
Navigate to: C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile
Right click and Paste the Desktop folder into the systemprofile folder
Restart (not shut sown) your PC
Only suggestion I can make to all is call Microsoft directly. They have had so many problems with this update. Now, my grandson's computer is completely zonked..! NO WINDOWS. But, make sure you speak with someone in the United States. They send a lot of tech problems to the Philippines and that is the reason I have "NO WINDOWS". She told me to do a complete reset erasing everything. Now, it's all gone. This is on a computer that has only been used maybe 6 months. I have a Mac. If I could afford one for him, I would do that. This is ridiculous..!
I have got exactly the same problem following the latest update. Missing desktop message followed by black screen with just the recycle logo.
The first thing I don't understand is that this problem was identified in May but the update is still creating problems.
I have tried several of the suggestions but none has worked.
I have tried to recreate the desktop folder but I can't navigate to the folder. The only icon showing is the recycle link but when I click on that I get the message "an attempt was made to reference a token that does not exist".
I have tried to go back to a previous back up but none exist even though I now a specifically did one a few days ago.
I have tried to revert to a previous version but it does not exist.
I have tried to reset my PC, it attempted it but after about an hour is starting undoing the changes and ended up back with the black screen.
What are Microsoft doing?
How do I solve the problem?
EDIT: for those that may have missed the [MY] solution:
At least this worked for myself:
- Create a Windows 10 USB using the Media Creation tool on another computer
- Insert this into the computer having this issue
- Open a Command Prompt (Win+R opens Run dialog, type cmd.exe)
- Navigate to the USB drive (mine was E:) [THIS IS THE USB WIN10 INSTALL USB that you created earlier]
- Run (type) setup.exe
- Select install Windows (this will perform an "in-place" upgrade)
- Make sure "Keep personal files and apps" is selected
- Let it do its thing, when finished you should be fine
Took less than 30 minutes once I figured this out. Good luck!
So... I just tried this...
However after I select Install Windows- this is what happens:
1. Activate Windows- Since my version of windows 10 was not purchased (it was from that free for one year deal- I upgraded from Windows 7 Pro), I selected "I don't have a product key" (even if I did I have no idea where it is currently).
* Upgrade: Install Windows and Keep files, settings and applications
The files, settings and applications are moved to Windows with this option. This option is only available when a supported version of Windows is already running on the computer (it is).
* Custom: Install Windows only (advanced).
The files, settings and applications aren't moved to windows with this option. If you want to make changes to partitions and drives, start the computer using the installation disc (I don't have one of those). We recommend backing up your files before you continue.
Side note- thankfully my last backup was on August 19 though I can't make heads or tails of what's in there...it looks like it's all 'compressed into several... poorly named files (that's a different story.. back to the one at hand)

the upgrade option isn't available if you start your computer using Windows installation media.
If a copy of Windows is already installed on this computer and you want to upgrade, remove the installation media and restart your computer. After Windows has started normally (!!!!!??????!), insert the installation media and run Windows Setup.
Now... see.. the problem is that Windows ISN'T STARTING NORMALLY! I either attempt to reset the PC and get stuck at either 26%, 32% or 29% (so far...) or I somehow manage to get to the Windows "sign in screen"- then get the lovely location error mentioned in the OP with a black screen, error message, recycle bin (after closing the error message) and icons at the bottom.
I tried to get to explore.exe through the recycle bin but couldn't I got a second error stating something about a missing token.
SO.. where do I go from here?
I honestly don't know what happened. Watched Hulu til 3 AM last night, went to bed.. walked in around lunch time and there's an error something about invalid configuration... I'm guessing there was some kind of Windows Update while I was sleeping

Nicholas, please help. Nana here with grandson. Update totaled computer. I have talked to Microsoft. I have spent the past 2 days trying to fix this. The last person I talked to had me remove everything in reset. Black screen with Recycle Bin. I tried your solution, but after \Users\Default> I hit enter and got this...."The syntax of the command is incorrect." Can you help.? What did I do wrong?
