My PC is working really normal before update. After I update my windows 10 the system show this message.
C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop is unavailable. If the location is on this PC, make sure the device or drive is connected or the disc is inserted, and then try again. If the location is on a network, make sure you're connected to the network or internet, and then try again. If the location still can't be found, it might have been moved or deleted. - OK
Then I click ok after that I only see recycle bin and task bar, which can not do anything background is black, so I restart by using ctrl+alt+delete and run safe mode(safe mode with network).
In safe mode it has no This PC it just has recycle bin and some program and I can't open any file location of any program after that I turn off my pc for 30 sec then open it the result is
C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop is not accessible
Access is denied. -OK
Only recycle bin and task bar and black background again.

On the View Ribbon, check the box marked 'Hidden Items'
C:\users\Default\
Right click and copy the Desktop folder contained in the Default Folder
Navigate to: C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile
Right click and Paste the Desktop folder into the systemprofile folder
Restart (not shut sown) your PC

I can't access anything on the hard drive, windows opens up to a black screen with the start button, search button, but you can't click on it to open up anything. Task Manager shows up blank, no apps running whatsoever & receiving ctfmon.exe - unknown hard error, sishost.exe - unknown hard error.
Hello, I had exactly the same problem ( see above). I ended up doing the following: I inserted the win 10 installation disc into my dvd drive, then I shut down the laptop, waited a few seconds then pressed the power button, RIGHT AWAY followed by repeatedly pressing f9, until a menu came up with boot options. I chose the option to boot from disk drive and then was able to reinstall Win10. The second time around win10 installed correctly and works fine. I had to try the powrr/f9 button part several times before it worked. I hope it works for you, too. Let me know.

Thank you for your guidance. I just followed your suggestions, copied the desktop file into systemprofile. You mention restarting the laptop but I do not have a desk top and the windows 10 icon is unresponsive. So I just turned off the laptop and then turned it back on. I still did not get the desktop but received a message that systemprofile\desktop is not accessible, access is denied' So should I have done this as an administrator? Any thoughts how I can still make it work? I'm not very savvy with my laptop. Thank you, Anne
Well I have now spent over a week of trying to install the Feature update that Microstuffed keeps trying to ram into my PC. Hey! I don't want it - keep it! I think I have read through just about all of the comments here and experienced just about every fault issue mentioned.
Today I tried downloading and manually installing the latest cumulative update from their on-line update catalogue. The result almost an hour later was "We couldn't install the update (so we are returning you to the mess you were previously in)". And then I am bombarded with warnings that updates are available (and if you don't install them we'll do it for you, but it won't work).
Someone earlier mentioned a class action. Good idea because what these plebs are dishing out is definitely "Not fit for purpose." And the silence from Microstuffed is deafening! Where are they? Are they:
1. Sitting in a dark corner somewhere sucking their thumbs and wishing it would all go away.
2. Sitting in a rocking chair on the front porch (with noise cancelling headphones on), singing "We are so wonderful . . ."
I would like to thank all contributors to this thread for their efforts. So many people working together to try and solve what should never have been an issue in the first place. A shame it hasn't helped me out of my hole, and a sad refection of the quality of Windows 10 software updates.
Ah well, format the drive and back to Windows 7 . . . .
