After installation of KB4056892 boot failure, after roll-back error 0x800f0845

Hi,

I have older AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+, Asus MB, after installation of KB4056892 the system doesn't boot, it only shows the Windows logo without animation and nothing more. After several failed boots it do roll-back then it shows error 0x800f0845. Unfortunately, it seems it's not easy to disable the automatic updates without gpedit tweaks, so it tries installing and rolling-back the update over and over. The sfc /scannow shows no problem, in-place upgrade also doesn't seem to help. I can try full reinstall, but I doubt it will change anything. It seems like the update is binary incompatible with my old CPU. I understand that making the machine unbootable is the best protection from remote exploitation, but I would rather have the OS working. Especially if my CPU is not vulnerable to the Meltdown attack and the MS mitigation attempts for Spectre is more than questionable. I could find only some German and Italian people reporting the same issue (well the CPU is quite pre-historic and the KB update is very fresh), but no info / acknowledgment from the MS so far. I have Czech localization. Could anybody provide more information?

    Thanks Sumit Dhiman2 -I saw that update from Microsoft so tried again thinking the processor from my older BU computer would be included. Alas NO, but I did do another image BU beforehand.

    Thanks again for your links which will also be helpful; you learn something more everyday.

    I tried to do my bit with AMD and separately with Microsoft with the fact that other AMD processors are being affected but not on the block list. I have just received an unhelpful reply from AMD giving me the standard role back info which I have already tried. Your links are much more useful.

    Microsoft has updated the support page a day ago stating they would no longer offer the update for AMD machines. As per: https://support.microsoft.com/en-in/help/4056892

    *Microsoft has reports of some customers with AMD devices getting into an unbootable state after installing this KB.*To prevent this issue, Microsoft will temporarily pause Windows OS updates to devices with impacted AMD processors at this time. Microsoft is working with AMD to resolve this issue and resume Windows OS security updates to the affected AMD devices via Windows Update and WSUS as soon as possible*. If you have experienced an unbootable state or for more information see KB4073707**. For AMD specific information please contact AMD.*

    I have myself checked and I am not getting the update downloaded at the time of running this(computer turned on after 1st of January) and if people are offered this update repeatedly do either of these steps:

    Reset Windows updates

    Make sure you run the script as an administrator.

    When the update is offered, hide this update using the following troubleshooter tool:

    Download Windows 10 Updates Troubleshooter Tool from Microsoft

    Click on "Hide updates" option and you'll be able to hide desired update given in the list.

    Thank you for the suggestions:

    How to exclude the Update:

    • If possible in your Windows 10 version, set your connection as "metererd", this will stop automatic download of updates
    • use the Hide/Show troubleshooter to hide the Update
    • if the Update is not "waiting for restart" in Windows Update, you can restart the pc now
    • if instead the Update is in the "waiting for restart" state, it is already listed in the uninstallable updates so you can uninstall it How to Uninstall a Windows Update in Windows 10 and then restart your pc
    • wait some minutes and then check Windows Update to verify that the Update is now ignored
    • reset your connection to not metered

    Tested on Windows 10 Fall Creators Update Home and Pro.

    While I have plenty of workstations to test this ((JoeReedy's post ->"But appears to not be a problem."), I am kinda busy recovering lost systems.  I saw 2 systems relocked yesterday, before updates could be stopped..

    That statement was released on the 8th, but systems were still being locked yesterday the 10th.

    It seems things are sorted out.

    Just did a restart to test see if it would try to do an update after seeing one similar to this one done earlier today. Note that I am in Thailand and my time is now 8:00 PM (GMT +7 hours).

    Installed updates is still a mess. But appears to not be a problem.

    I'm running windows 8.1 with an AMD Prossesor AMD A10-575M APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics on a 4 years old acer aspire V5 laptop.

    My laptop did get the KB4056895 when it searched for updates during the night, but I hid it and installed the rest. I can do that since I use windows 8.1 and I'm sooo happy that I could keep this version of windows. Yes I did try win 10 but it messed up my laptop totally with its updates. Picks the wrong drivers and so on..
