After installation of KB4056892 boot failure, after roll-back error 0x800f0845

Hi,

I have older AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+, Asus MB, after installation of KB4056892 the system doesn't boot, it only shows the Windows logo without animation and nothing more. After several failed boots it do roll-back then it shows error 0x800f0845. Unfortunately, it seems it's not easy to disable the automatic updates without gpedit tweaks, so it tries installing and rolling-back the update over and over. The sfc /scannow shows no problem, in-place upgrade also doesn't seem to help. I can try full reinstall, but I doubt it will change anything. It seems like the update is binary incompatible with my old CPU. I understand that making the machine unbootable is the best protection from remote exploitation, but I would rather have the OS working. Especially if my CPU is not vulnerable to the Meltdown attack and the MS mitigation attempts for Spectre is more than questionable. I could find only some German and Italian people reporting the same issue (well the CPU is quite pre-historic and the KB update is very fresh), but no info / acknowledgment from the MS so far. I have Czech localization. Could anybody provide more information?

    success 1709 x86-32Bit with AMD Turion X2

    additional manually installed KB4073291 after KB4056892 was installed again (after 10th recovery) but still NOT REBOOTED.

    manual reboot, waiting long, hangs on power down, manually powered off, start, wait endless at 100%, auto-reboot, wait endless to finish install

    now on 16299.201 everything working again ...

    Ok,  I think we got this.

    Here...........

    KB4056892, (AMD fx-8150 64 Bit) results in Windows 10 build 1709 version 16299.192.

    KB4073291, (AMD Athlon X2 6000+ 32 Bit) results in Windows 10 build 1709 version 16299.201.

    And in your case.

    KB4073290 results in Windows 10 build 1709 version 16299.194 (on 64-bit machines)

    Both  KB4073290 and KB4073291 supersede / replace KB4056892.

    All's well that ends well, still and all, makes you want to go out in the back yard and "burn one".

    From "Monkey57" I noticed that there is an update available:

    I was a little bit worried that the link to http://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=KB4073290 would be unsafe.

    I decided to preceed and downloaded and installed the cumulative update on my AMD W10 machine. After an apparently succesful install I unblocked "Windows update" and the faulty package (which I had blocked according to preceding advice in this forum) did not reappear. Now all updates have been installed and the machine (re)boots normal. Watching the eventviewer is perhaps wise to monitor abnormalities.

    did you tried this?

    How to exclude the Update:

    • If possible in your Windows 10 version, set your connection as "metererd", this will stop automatic download of updates
    • use the Hide/Show troubleshooter to hide the Update
    • if the Update is not "waiting for restart" in Windows Update, you can restart the pc now
    • if instead the Update is in the "waiting for restart" state, it should be already listed in the uninstallable updates so you can uninstall it How to Uninstall a Windows Update in Windows 10 and then restart your pc
    • wait some minutes and then check Windows Update to verify that the Update is now ignored
    • reset your connection to not metered

    Tested on Windows 10 Fall Creators Update Home and Pro.

    I got this error on PC full of accountant softwares and certificates which meant I cant reinstall windows that easy. System restore was corrupted so that wasnt a solution.

    Solution I did is that I took out HDD out of AMD pc and connected it on different Intel PC.

    Booted up there without any issues removed/disabled updates and put back disk to AMD pc.

    Worked perfect.
