Hello, 

I want to reinstall my windows 10 64 bit into a new SSD I bought.

I am trying to create a USB flash drive using windows media creation tool but I am getting this error every time. I have tried it on 4 laptops and 1 desktop, and with 3 different pendrives.

Hi Divyank,

The error code 0x80072F76-0x20017 means that the tool doesn't have permission for it to run. For us to assist you, we suggest that you follow the simple steps listed below:

  1. Right-click on the Media Creation Tool.exe.
  2. Press Properties.
  3. Click on General.
  4. At the bottom, click on Unblock.
  5. Press Apply, and then OK.

    Hello,

    i've too this issue.

    But today i found a solution and now the tool is working correctly.

    On my private lan all pc's have DNS by Google. So, i only try to change DNS...and it's working for me.

    Linux... you won't survive long there if you can't resolve this simple problem. I bet you have no idea how Linux works.

    This is easy and you're all wrong : 

    • Microsoft is already providing a workable iso, that's not the issue of this topic. Search online for it, download is easy and quick.
    • This topic is about executing correctly their (not mandatory) tool providing the possibility to download + install the iso on a USB stick or whathever.

    Rufus is just another tool providing the same functionality. Those tools are legions online, and have been used since a long long time, for windows, Linux or any other OS. It's very easy... 

    Some people are uncomfortable with using a 3rd party tool to perform a task that Microsoft's own tool should perform.  

    Whether or not Rufus works, and regardless of how many people use it, no one should have to do so.  

    Microsoft provides the ISO.  Their tool to download that ISO should work correctly.  Until it does, they should at least provide a link to download it directly WITHOUT needing the tool, like EVERYONE ELSE that provides ISOs for download.

    But what if there is no unblock button?

    I have the same error code running it normally, and as admin.

    This did not work.

    Is this problem also due to a DNS issue?
