Feature update to Windows 10, version 1709 fails to install

You are welcome. I would add my own query, being specific about my computer model & OS build.

Well, it isn't many clicks to free up unallocated space using Disk Management, & an install of Windows into it takes 24/so minutes to accomplish. Cortana speaks at minute 17 & asked only for my Wi-Fi password (written on the router) & my MSFT account password. It fetched all my Dell/Intel/Realtek drivers on its own. I was pleased enough that I booted into 1511 just once after that before wiping it.

There is some prep...

(a) Make a Windows system image backup.

(b) Download a fit & proper v.1709 that matches your architecture (bits), Windows edition & language.

(c) Maybe have some drivers on hand on a USB drive.

Regarding number 2, that is way complicated for a user to asked for. I wouldnt do that. It can create problems along the way. 

For number 1 suggestion, a lot of users have already submitted their query and waiting for feedback from microsoft.

(2) I see that article says a clean install might work. You could shrink your C:partition by say 50 GB, & then install Win 10 v.1709 into the unallocated space. That will create a dual-boot situation. I did that once with v.1703 just to see whether this Dell would take a clean install.

If unhappy, the dual boot is easily undone: a thing is done in MSConfig, the v.1709 partition deleted, & the v.1511 partition re-expanded.

If happy, the best thing is to repeat the clean install, this time wiping the entire HDD to unallocated space. That way, you get fit & proper partitions to suit just v.1709.

the workaround doesnt help every GL502 line of gaming laptops.  There are 25 pages there. Ive read them all.

ROG GL502VT

I've scanned the FAQs. It appears they expect both v.1703 & v.1709 are good for the GL502VT. However, I see no FAQ with suggestions what to do in case of trouble.

(1) Make a Windows system image (in case things get even worse).

(2) Update all your drivers to the ones at the site. BIOS version is in MSInfo32 (ask Cortana).

(3) Try to upgrade to v.1709 once more.
