Windows 10 Cumulative Update KB4054517 fails to install error 0x80070643

We just got our "second Tuesday" updates (12/12/2017) on our W10 machine running V1709.

The cumulative update KB4054517 failed with an error code of 0x80070643.

The only thing we've discovered so far is that this machine will not display our other 3 PC's on the network when we select "Network" in File Explorer.  But all three other PC's can "see" and access this PC no problem.  And we ran a batch backup job on the affected PC and it was able to copy files from all three other PC's.  So it's just a display problem in File Explorer -> Network.  

We've run Windows Update Troubleshooter and told it to Apply Fixes whenever it prompted us, and it DID report that it found and fixed three issues:

Potential Windows Update Database Error - Fixed

Windows Update Component Must Be Repaired - Fixed

Check for pending updates - Fixed

After exiting the Troubleshooter, we clicked on "Check for Updates" again and it said "Your device is up to date". 

We noticed that the build number after the "failed" update had changed to 16299.125.  So the system thinks it DID install something newer than it had before, but Windows Update thinks the cumulative patch failed to install.

BTW, the other "Second Tuesday" patches (Adobe Flash KB4053577 and Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool KB890830) both installed OK.

    my new computers are useless now because the update fills up the memory and cant stop the update

    I also haven't found many people that are in our boat.  This is my plan.  Whether it works or not I cannot know.

    Right now my windows update says KB4058702, KB4056892, KB4054517 are awaiting a reboot, multiple times to install which never happens.  There are also message indicating the KB404517 failed to install also.  I am also stuck at Version 1709 16299.64.

    Added to this issue is that the Chip Issue reboot only works when you antivirus provider has done something regarding an update and there is no message to let you know whether one of these updates is failing because of that or because of the 404517 issue.

    Microsoft's failure to address these issues in a comprehensive manner is appalling.  There should be information about how to progress from 16299.64 to I believe 16299.192 (I could have those last three digits wrong) independently from information for people that have the higher build.  They also need to be clear about which anitvirus programs by company have been patched with version numbers or something so we can check see whether the Microsoft Patch will install.

    I'm going to wait till Tuesday when the patches hopefully are posted and see what my update does.  If nothing occurs and I read patches are available I'm going to uninstall all of the KB's that can't update and see if update does it thing correctly. I'm sure you know, but just to explain, the patches can be uninstalled through Control Panel - Programs and Features, but I think only 1 at a time with a reboot each time.  I will not go to check for the update check until each one is unistalled.

    It's a plan - whether it will work or not I don't know.

    When you uninstall an update, at the end you will get the option to restart or restart later. You can uninstall all the ones you want then re-start.

    Unless you disconnect from internet, or pause Windows Update, I have found they will all be downloaded again and you will end up with the same problem again and again and again.

    I found that

    KB4054022 does NOT give you an option to uninstall.

    I just bought 2 2 in 1 tablets and they are new and stuck on this dang update that wont install. it just bogs the pc down until it fills up the memory which is not in my capability on how to remove the memory fill up. ive tried everything that others have tried and not succeded at. would be nice if I could just block it til it gets fixed or jump to the next update and bypass it. why would anybody buy a new pc if it got stuck on forced updating by Microsoft which we have no way of fixing it on our own? look at all those brand new pcs that are now useless. help us Microsoft and please fix this massive issue!

    I Downloaded wushowhide then you can hide the updates. Then I downloaded the Free version of CCleaner and let it clean what already was checked. (Do not put in any other check marks). Then I downloaded the standalone updates from Microsoft catalog and Installed them with no problems. Hope this helps

    Nope sorry to crush your dreams Advocate111 but I just tried it and well it didn't work. Also what I've read through some articles many of the major antivirus softwares already have the support for KB4056892 cumulative update.

    Something interesting though. So I tried to uninstall the updates, that part went well. I restarted my computer and jumped straight to Windows update and KB4054517 is still asking for a restart! Even without downloading the update! Same with the other 2 updates too. 

    God this is killing me! I mean I'm not that tech-savvy, good that I'm even able to do something if a error message pops up, but with this update I've tried pretty much everything and goddammit nothing works! :D
