I may have some info here.
A friend recently had their PC have the exact same issue, so I took it home and have been working on it. Gone through every attempt listed here to try and get it to boot, and no success. Only option appeared to wipe the C:/, reformat, and lose a ton of artwork
and what not.
In an attempt to try and salvage some of the content, hooked up the 1TB Hard Drive to a SATA to USB adapter to extract some to my own laptop; was somewhat successful (she had 5 partitions on the one drive, and couldn't access more than some core backup data,
though the fact it was showing only 10GB on a 1TB drive as used may mean it's just all gone), and moved it on to my own machine. Noticed a file called "Recovery.txt" in the files....
Stupidly, I double clicked on it, and as soon as I did it regretted my decision. Blank TXT file appeared in Notepad and, surprise, my own laptop is having the exactly same problem now. Tried to repair, won't jive.
Now going to have to use another of my laptops to try and extract as much content as I can. This appears to be the result of malware on the system, with a seed planted to spread to any machine trying to fix it. I'll be deleting the Recovery.txt file, obviously,
on my next go, but it appears to be pretty insidious in it's ability to completely reject any attempt to repair.
Next step will be to extract as much as I can to my 1TB external HD and salvage as much personal content as possible. From there, will be formatting both drives, and starting from scratch.
Not good news, but thought I'd throw what I've found out there.
