I read it between the lines, but you didn't directly say you tried "START, Settings, Update & Security, Troubleshoot, Hardware & Devices". Don't be overly optimistic, if it asks to do a reboot afterward. It asked me to do it, & I've got
nothing to fix.
When you did that clean install of 1709 (which is when the DVD drive broke), did you happen to test it before installing all the 3rd-party apps? I know you said the drive wouldn't read a DVD in Safe Mode. So, that probably means it
is not a 3rd-party driver at fault. But maybe try the following anyway, as it isn't tough to do...
