TSSTcorp CDDVDW SU-208GB not working after Fall Creators Update installed

When the Windows 10 Fall Creators update tried to install it corrupted my boot drive so I had to download the image from Microsoft and do a clean install on my MSI laptop. After the clean install of Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, everything seems to be working fine except for my optical disc drive. It is a TSSTcorp CDDVDW SU-208GB with firmware level TM01 installed. It was working fine previously. The device shows up in Device Manager and everything says the device is working normally, has the latest correct driver, etc. When I put a disc in the drive, it will try starting up and then fall silent. I never see the optical disc drive on my windows desktop or in file manager. Any thoughts about what I can do to get this resolved?

    That is precisely the same "TSSTcorp CDDVDW SU-208GB" drive that Mike has. None of the fixes worked for him, either - yet on May 11 the drive began to work to everyone's delight. Could be one of the fixes kicked in a tad late, could be something updated on its own in the background. Anyway...

    What is your computer make & model?

    You should go to its site for any driver & firmware update. Current BIOS version is in MSInfo32 (ask Cortana). For driver updates, if one is a greater version at the site, first try to get it using Device Manager (search automatically). If it won't come in that way, take it from the site.

    Hi,

    thanks to all for your ideas.

    I have got the same problem, TSSTcorp CDDVDW SU-208GB does not work, I have done the same trouble shooting you suggest, but in vain. I have tried data and movie DVDs, but DVDs are not recognized, do not mount.

    My external USB Samsung DVD-drive is working.

     I think there is some trouble in the s connection between the driver and the TSST drive.

    That is wonderful news & coming just as my head was nearly empty.

    Well - make a Windows system image now, at  "START, Settings, Update & Security, Backup, Go to Backup & Restore (Win 7)", in case the problem recurs or the next problem is even worse. Make the Repair Disc to restore it with, or ask Cortana for "Recovery Drive" to make it on USB. Also, see...

    Note: That is a 3rd-party site. Sounds good, but I know nothing of any link or download there.

    Or at least ask Cortana for "Restore", & make a restore point. But eventually it will get old.

    Dear auggy,

    Well, I have absolutely no idea why, but suddenly both the internal AND external DVD drives are working fine!?!?!?!?

    Thank you very, very much for your patience and assistance. Hopefully, the optical drives will continue to behave themselves!
