I ran this computer just fine fine for several years, including a long while after I installed Windows 10 as suggested. I had very few problems at all until last fall. Then Windows 10 auto-updates started crashing my computer. I have spent countless hours researching & testing things, running all the troubleshooters, running diagnostics. I've tried so many things to stop this over the past 6 months, & now I'm afraid I'm screwed. After every update I can recall since last fall (2017), The computer booted up just fine & appeared to be perfectly fine. I could open & run any program just fine. No troubles. But, 3-10 minutes into using the computer, whatever I clicked on next would not work. There would be no response at all. I could still click on some things, but others wouldn't respond. Gradually, if I continued to try to click on things, they would all not respond & the computer would completely freeze. I would reboot & it would happen over and over until I gave up & started trying to solve the problem by troubleshooting & reading blogs...anything I could do to solve it. Every time, which by now has been about 15, I would wind up having to revert to an earlier build. Once I did that, everything worked perfectly.....until Windows 10 forced another update. Then it all started over again. Two weeks ago, an update happened, & I reverted back, but then it did it again 2 days later. Then again the next day. I reached Microsoft support on the phone, but they just said: "your computer is not compatible. Our developers can't know all the old drivers out there, so we can't help you". I asked if they would help me just turn off the auto updates, which I used to be able to do. He said No. My computer is a Gateway FX6840, Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 870 @ 2.93GHz, 4.00 GB RAM, 64-bit Operating System, x64-based processor. Yesterday, the PC updated again, but this time they have removed the ability for me to revert back to a previous working version. I'm hoping I'm not screwed, because I have several cryptocurrency nodes (not bitcoin, no I'm not rich) that have wallets on them & I'd prefer not to rebuild all of that if I can avoid it. Nor do I want to re-install the many programs I have loaded with all my settings and custom menus, addons, etc. in place by doing a clean install. I don't have alot of money, so the little I have, I'd like to not lose or have to build back from scratch.
Is there anybody out there who can help me, or point me in the right direction? I'm leary of those support companies that want a fee, then pipe in and take over doing God knows what to my computer.

A. User: we are NOT all computer techs who can diagnose our system and figure out what's wrong, and if our computer was working fine before the forced windows update why would you take the leap and say our computers have something amiss? that WE have to fix what MS messed up? the only problems I ever have is with the forced upgrades and I'm really tired of having my computer hijacked.... and now, likely completely broken since it won't come back on after the last confounded update.
When I can afford the time ot do this, I shall.

I have two chromebooks and 4 W10 machines inc SurfacePro. With the chromebooks we are now using computers at many new places in the house. I tried Linux mint but quickly lost faith. Microsoft is going to keep W10 viable. However a Chromebook will boot instantly and always be there. There are never 'update' delays. I hope MS realizes that a lot of us need a stable simple OS rather than new features that we don't have time to find &evaluate . Call it W10 for dummies but do it !
Same problem here. My ASUS desktop started crashing with the November 2017 update, December 2017, January 2017 and now this last May 2018 update. Had to reinstall windows to fix the problem in December/January. Luckily, I have an IT group that maintains my business computers (they are all on Windows 7 because our office management software will not run on Windows 10, thankfully) and they have been including the countless hours of repairing my desktop in my monthly fee. I did have to purchase a new HD and it looks like I'm going to have to replace my AMD video card with a new NVIDIA card based on what I've read here. I do think this is a major problem and if Microsoft does not address it quickly they will have one hell of a class action suit on their hands.
My computer boots to windows boot screen, flashes, then goes back to bios screen and repeats this over and over. This time I have not been able to get the recovery mode by f11 or powering off 3 times in row. If replacing the video card does not work, I will be forced to purchase a new desktop and it will most likely be an Apple since I can no longer trust Microsoft.
It is simple.
No troubleshooting is required.
All of my PCs worked perfectly.
Windows 10 updated itself.
None of my PCs work properly - only one boots and I have to recover to the previous version for WIFI to work.
Microsoft IS at fsault.
Miscrosoft has expensive lawyers.
Microsoft will never stop so low as to start servicing its customers properly.
