Opening Task Manager Slows PC to Crawl - Windows 10 Pro 1709

Hi all,

I've had an issue with Windows 10 Pro really freezing up and not being responsive after opening up Task Manager. The numbers shown for performance and CPU utilization are not pegged at all. 

This is on a Dell T3500 with a SSD OS drive, W3580 cpu, 24GB RAM, and an AMD Radeon Pro WX7100.

The computer is on a Domain with Webroot installed as AV. I usually have Solidworks and a couple of other programs open. I do not have any hardware bottlenecks as far as I can see. I also looked at the Event Viewer, and apart from a couple Group Policy warnings, nothing out of the ordinary, and no system events registered at the time of opening Task Manager.

    Really? What is happening here that powershell is the problem, and how did you come to this conclusion?

    Unfortunately I just paid for a year of Webroot and I am the entire IT dept, I don't have the budget nor the time to swap this out right now.

    Seems like no matter what I switch to for anti-virus there's always problems on the horizon.

    I am so glad I found this post. I ran into this issue only today and it was driving me crazy. I noticed this post was from Dec. 2017 and it is now March 2018 and I am having the same problem so It has apparently not been fixed by Webroot.

    I contacted Webroot support to find the best possible workaround.

    I will say that allowing Chrome in their identity protection setting only partially fixed the issue for me. So I think Webroot is doing more scanning of other apps and it's still causing problems with Task Manager. I haven't had time yet to test things further unfortunately.

    I am quite disappointed because I just recently switched our company to Webroot from something else that I was having a lot of issues with. 

    Our IT dept uninstalled Webroot and installed a different anti-virus. This fixed it.
