Windows 10 updates keep turning off system restore thus deleting previous restore points!

Why is Windows 10 update wiping out my restore points? On November 21, I created two new restore points (manual). My C: system drive was turned on. My limit was set to 25% and my new 1 terabyte  WD hard drive is barely 30% used. This morning, I allowed an update that took a long time to download and install. Afterwards, my Task Manager had new entries, Cortana2. My previous days restore points had been deleted and C: system was turned off in system restore. This is the second time in a month that Windows update has screwed with my settings and system! Why isn't somebody doing something about this?

    If you haven't tries this yet, I think its worth a try.

    Open an 'elevated' command prompt. Right Click on command prompt/cmd.exe, then click 'Run as administrator'

    In there, 1st type, (or copy n paste), sfc /scannow

    Push Enter, then wait til its completed. When thats completed, it'll most likely say you have corrupted files.

    Then, do the same thing with the 'Admin' command prompt. But this time type or copy in - Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth.

    Wait until completed. Hopefully it will say the corrupted files have been fixed.

    If you like, Run the 1st step again, the sfc /scannow. Now it should come back with no corrupted files.

    If all goes well, maybe retry your updates again then.

    Thats pretty much the only thing I can think of thats left.

    Worth a shot I think....

    After this amount of time, it sounds as though you've tried everything.

    I found, on my W10 PCs anyway, that the restore points only get deleted and restore turned off, after the big "Feature" upgrades. Not after the usual monthly windows updates.

    it may not be so for everyone, but that was the case for me.

    I really feel for you. Damn updates are such a #### on W10, compared to the simplicity W7 used to offer. When you could pick which ones to install, and which to hide etc.

    Even system image restore points get deleted after the feature upgrades, which tell me that any system images made for a previous build would fail or worse if they were tried to be used. That's just damn terrible. Defeats the whole point of System Images, (&Restore Points)

    But back to your problem... It looks to me like you've tried everything to no avail. You may have to bite the bullet, backup everything, and reset or reinstall, or restore to factory condition. I wish I could help. But the amount of time, and stress this has caused, Starting over may well be the best or only option now.
