Xbox app mic issues?

My microphone will work perfectly on skype, discord and teamspeak but when i try and talk to my friends on the xbox app, it makes a really loud crackling noise. It's so loud, I can hear it through their headphones but when i go into the mics properties menu, it isn't making a sound despite me still hearing it through their headsets. Is this a problem with the app itself or my headset?

I have the same exact issue, my computer had an update the night prior to this happening, I'm not sure if its related to this or if the xbox app is acting up again. I cant be in a party with any of my friends and they say it sounds like a loud crackling

noise. if there is a fix please tell me something or tell me there's one on the way.

I fixed mine by going into the advanced tab in the microphones properties and changing the format from the default.

Thank you for telling me this :D but what i was doing to get around this was connectin my controller to the pc and havi g my mic plugged in to the controller and it worked for party and games at the same time. So if this happens again for your method, heres a fall back plan (:

Right-click on the little speaker icon in the right-hand side of the taskbar, and click on recording devices. Double-click on your active microphone and click the tab that says "Advanced". In the drop down menu, change it from the default, I used "2 channel, 16 bit, 96000Hz (Studio Quality)".

    i have been using the xbox app on my phone to use party chat in place of the windows 10 app which still dorant work without the squeel.

    i plug a headset into my phone jack and use the new in app party chat for xbox,

    I just recently started using the Xbox app on my laptop, running Windows 10. Sole reason was to play Co-Op in State of Decay 2, unfortunately in order to play coop you have to join via the xbox app. My Mic does the same exact thing that everyone else here is stating. I have disabled the  built in laptop mic to isolate the problem to my headset mic (both mics are doing the same thing).

    I changed my audio quality to 2 channel, 16bit, 192000 Hz and still have the same problem. So far i have gone down the entire list of options in the sound quality setting. 

    I have adjusted the input volumes from low to high and mid testing each range.

    I have tried this with the built-in mic and my headset mic and have no gotten any better.

    When i get in game the sound is fine, ventrilo is fine, discord is fine, other in-game audio chat works fine. This is the only thing that seems to be doing this, I would say it is isolated to the app.

    I am out of ideas, and its horrible that i have to actually mute myself in xbox in order to play multiplayer on my PC. Muting myself seemed to stop the squealing on their end, i think. The problem with that is, i can hear everything but still cannot respond without un-muting myself and then the squealing starts again.

    What do I do if there is no 'recording devices' under my sound icon? I right-clicked, and it wasn't there, and I'm starting to get increasingly frustrated, as every time I've tried to search up a fix for this, I'm getting literally nothing about it.

    I did exactly what you said and i still get the extremely loud scratching sound.  Again, my mic works perfectly on all other apps.
