    Hello all,

I found a fix for this issue through following steps.

For issue were you are getting black screen with white cursor

    >Press Ctrl+Alt+Del

    >Go to 'Services' tab

    >Look for 'AppReadiness'

    >Right click and stop it.

Make sure you disable the same after login into Windows.

    >Click start and type 'Services'

    >Look for 'AppReadiness'

    >Right click and select 'Properties'

    >Startup type should be set to 'Disabled'

    >Set the 'Service Status' to Stopped.

This solution worked for me. Let me know if this worked for others as well.

    Regards,

    Shameem

This is great, if Ctrl+Alt+Delete works for you...

But in my case, pressing those 3 keys just changed the cursor into an hourglass for 1 second, then it went back to the regular cursor.  Nothing more than that.

Connecting my laptop to a monitor magically brought my install back to life  (even though I hadn't had a monitor connected throughout the rest of the Windows 10 installation).

    Hello,

I had the same issue on a laptop after april's update and I managed to solve it, using the following method.

    What was happening ?

My laptop showed the login screen, but after login I only got a black screen with mouse cursor. I had access to the task manager (CTRL-SHIFT-ESC) and some tools (cmd, msconfig, services.msc), but doing a clean boot or disabling AppReadyness changed nothing. The processor was constantly used at 99%.

    What was the cause ?

After trying different solutions, I found a forum post stating that the culprit was a cache folder linked to the user profile. I had only one profile on this laptop, but after creating a new one with the command line utility I successfully managed to log to it, so it confirmed that the issue was linked to my main profile.

    What is the solution ?

Once I confirmed the issue was linked to the profile, solving it was easy. You only have to get the Caches folder from a working profile (you can create one and log to it if needed) and use it to replace the one that exists in the non working profile.

The Caches folder is there : C:\Users\ACCOUNT-NAME\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows

Detailed solution : How to create a working profile and use it to repair the non working profile

1- Access the task manager (CTRL-ALT-DEL then "Task manager", or directly CTRL-SHIFT-ESC)

2- Go to "File" -> "New task", input the following command : "cmd" and check the adinistrator privileges checkbox. Click "OK".

3- In the command line prompt, input "net user spongebobrules sponge /ADD", this will create a new user named "spongebobrules" with "sponge" as password

4- Disconnect, then log spongebobrules user

5- Once successfully logged, disconnect and connect the non working profile

6- Access task manager and launch command line prompt with administrator privileges

7- Go to *C:\Users\NON-WORKING-ACCOUNT-NAME\AppData\Local* Microsoft\Windows, rename Caches folder to Caches_old (command : rename Caches Caches_old).

8- Input the following command : xcopy C:\Users\spongebobrules\AppData\Local \Microsoft\Windows\Caches Caches . This will copy the working Caches folder to the non working profile.

9- Check that the Caches folder has been copied successfully

10- Disconnect, then log back, everything should be working fine now ! If not, check that you entered the copy command correctly.

I hope this will be useful to someone !

    Bruno

This is an intermittent fault. When the machine is restarted it boots normally and may not reoccur for a few days.
