Black screen with cursor after Windows 10 update

How to fix windows 10 after update the screen after login is complete black with cursor, but nothing works, task manager wont start. I've tried to go on safe mode but all most the same thing happens, the it starts as safe mode, but I cant use anything, task manager don't work in safe mode, no CTRL +x.

I don't know what to do.

    Problem is, on my "black screen after a fresh installation with just a cursor", pressing CTRL+ALT+Del does absolutely nothing.

    Microsoft suggests starting up in Safe Mode, but to do that, errr, I need to be able to "hold the Shift key down while you select Power Power icon  > Restart."   Errr yeah... I don't have any kind of menu, I can't do that.

    And if I shut down my computer and restart it.... same thing.  Hitting during bootup F8 does nothing, I just end up with the black screen of nothingness.

    One interesting thing: if I do SHIFT + CTRL + Escape, the cursor turns into a "Please wait + pointer" cursor for about a second.  But still nothing appears.

    But - I found a ridiculous solution (you'll love this).

    I'm using an Asus ultrabook, and nothing would make the screen display anything.  But then I attached it to my monitor.  Actually, I just plugged in the cable, I didn't actually use my monitor.  At which point, the Windows "How would you like to set up?" screen appeared  (personal use, or setup for an organisation?"   

    And now, I could now remove the cable, and my ultrabook's screen was alive and kicking again.

    Microsoft... be careful.  You're becoming as unstable as Apple....

    I guess the words 'black screen with cursor' doesn't explain that I only see a BLACK SCREEN WITH CURSOR"!!! And yes, tried safe mode, same. Tried System Restore. Did restoration, still 'BLACK SCREEN WITH CURSOR'. I could get into the BIOS with no problems. But don't worry about this, the OS has already been reinstalled and fixed. Thank you Microsoft for all the business that comes my way thanks to your disfunctional product (Win 10).

    The blank screen and cursor just disappeared and I have had no further probs have just upgraded to 1803 which seems to be working fine.
